Nice purchaseNow there are 4 Forum members who have an SM-1. They are tempting to buy, but after seeing those Archtop Stageys in the other thread, I think that I will hold out for one of them. Good luck with you new axe.

Nice! I love mine and prefer it over Stagy's. Very nice score there bro!
It's a feel thing. It is very hard to describe. I get asked a LOT things like "how does this neck compare to this neck..." etc. I don't know what the differences are in terms of spec. I can just say that I have now played about 4 Stagy's and I prefer this SM1 to them. The what I call "blower switch" is a cool feature that I haven't seen on a Stagy. No matter where the pickup selector switch is on it pull up on the volume pot and you are in humbucker. Plus the EMG is coil tappable. Great features, great feel, Great sound.
Please don't take this as a "Stagemasters suck" post. It isn't. They were great guitars.
Cool. Thanks for the comparison. I didn't take it as a "Stagemasters suck" post. I think some folks have preferred the old Stageys because the neck profile is (reportedly) a bit slimmer. You were one of the first I've seen who had the opposite preference, and I was curious why.
And it does all come down to preference, I think, as the things that feel right to one person don't to another.

Thank you all!
Now I've had it for 24 hours and really I am blown away by it - now I love a good chunky neck so that was an added bonus! The Guitar is really responsive to whatever I play which is something that guitars I've got at the moment/previously owned had a bit of a failing to do (although I kinda pushed my budget with this purchase so I'd expect that)
But overall if you are thinking of purchasing a SM-1 - JUST DO IT. Just don't hesitate, BUY IT. I promise - you won't regret it!

That's a good-looking axe, man. That black is so cool and classy. Congrats.

Congrats on the SM-1!And for getting it fairly quickly, Thomanns told me a few months back that it would be August before they'd see some!(luckily I found one up north). Good to see more people getting hold of them too, cause they kick ass!
Enjoy it dude!
I've sold several here at the store. Only have one black one left. It is a GREAT guitar. Congrats again!

Its here, it came to my uk address in 48 hours came an hour ago
First impressions, neck is great for me, same thickness as my peavey v type exp, great, imho, this neck isn't chunky at all
Slight finish flaw made it reduced, a brown dot on the neck thru join, the size of a full stop or a tiny dot, marker will cover it, parents couldn't see it
I'm off to get a battery now set it up, but won't be played until dad sees it from work
Oh yes and a very deep arch, looks like an esp
