In response to your question; "What would you do"?

    I'd do this....

"Hey, has any one seen or have had contact with John Doe" "I hope all is well, but I cannot get a hold of him and I bought something back in".....

I do like the way you are handling this...it shows real class.

Thanks for the compliment. I like your suggestion. Wish I'd have thought of that, though I'm not sure it would have helped. We'll see what happens.

    call the person out.

if it's a misunderstanding or whatever, you can delete the thread/post.

also, it might be a good idea to have a Good Trade thread or something similar so that people can view feedback. as it stands now, people may or may not put something in the signature line and that can be hit or miss when someone is interested in feedback to have to look all over the place for people that may or may not put something in their sig line. put it all in one place so that it's right there for everyone. the hall of fame and the wall of shame.

I've emailed him. I'm giving him until tomorrow to respond, and then I'll let people know what happened and who it is.

Maybe I'm erring on the side of protecting someone who doesn't deserve protecting. I just take nuking someone's reputation pretty seriously, and I want to make sure I've given them every possible chance to respond before I do so.

I've been PMing with a number of folks, by the way, and you guys have been great. Thanks for your messages of support. And thanks, especially, to Andy who's been incredibly helpful in providing as much info as possible. It's been the first time I've really experienced the Forum's support in something that's kind of personal, and you guys have been great. Thank you.

...I agree, you're a class act Holzar. Sorry you might have been burned, not fun, especially by a fellow enthusiast.

IMO if someone performed their due diligence as you have, I'd OUT the offending person ...save everyone else from their dishonesty! Maybe if the local KF posse knocked on their door might help too?? ...maybe a "little flick of the foot" too?

    Thanks. I appreciate your comments.

One of the other guys here gave me another email address last night. Just sent one last email. (Really. I promise. Not trying to drag it out.) Several people have been really helpful in leaving no stone unturned.

I'll let y'all know what happens. But this is my last attempt to contact him.

So I've sent multiple emails the last couple of days to different accounts. No response.

As I said I'd do, here's the user name. It's bmac, real name Bryan McCorkle.

Others contacted me via PM and mentioned bad transactions as well, indicating that this person has a record of not shooting straight with people.

It gives me no pleasure or sense of closure to "out" this person. But I agree that people on the Forum deserve to know what's happened here, lest others get taken advantage of as well.

I still think you need to call his local police dept. See what you can do about pressing charges.

Holzar, I agree with the others. Contact the sheriff's department where he lives. Ask them to check into him and see whats up. I work for my local sheriff's department and it is not uncommon for us to get calls from people out of town/state inquiring about someone living in our county. Most all of them are from people getting scammed off Craigslist. I can not tell you how many times I've heard...."well I delivered the motorcycle to him, accepted his check (personal check). went to my bank and its no good, and now he won't return my calls or emails". We investigate that shit! They will to. I've seen a few here go to jail for that same shit.

Have them check it out. Hell, dude may be dead or something. Or he may be dodging you.

I'll take the legal advice under consideration.

That said, I think I'd be more likely to go that route if we were talking about something that was hundreds or thousands of dollars. For the $75 at stake, frankly, I'm not sure I've got the time or emotional energy to pursue it too far. I work full time. So does my wife (more or less). We've got three little ones to take care. From a practical perspective, I just don't know that I want to spend much more time thinking about it. Sort of a "cut my losses" mentality, ya' know?

I suppose a call the sheriff wouldn't be too big a deal to pursue, though.

Anyway, just thinking out loud here. Thanks for walking through this one with me, gentlemen. Seems like 99 out of 100 guys here (or perhaps 999 out of 1000) are fantastic, and I randomly managed to hook up with one of the Forum's very, very few rotten apples.

I think the biggest lesson for me here is just to do a bit more homework. I was working under the assumption that someone with a lot of posts and lots of connections here wouldn't be such a deceptive (or intentionally thieving) flake. Turns out there was evidence on the Forum that would have warned me away had I taken time to do just a little bit of homework.

Next time, I guess. Next time.

    Thanks again, guys.

You've handled this very curteously, very patiently and professionally.
Can't say I've done as well as you in the past, but the lower dollar amount would determine how hard I pushed the issue.
This forum unfortunately does have some people who haven't been the most honest and we do need a "Good Deal / Bad Deal" Section.
Now from my standpoint you do what you can to get your money back based on what it's worth to ya in your time.
Sorry you got F'd, glad you pointed out the offender.
I know I've been here for a good while, though not much lately due to personal reasons and I miss this kind of stuff if it doesn't stay relavent/current.
You earned my respect for the way you have handled it.

Yeah, I don't mean to make light of it, like money's nothing. It's a reasonable chunk of change. But I do some freelance work on the side, and once it gets past a couple of hours of my time, that's time I could be making money somewhere else.

Also, I'm freakin' lousy with following up with details. So part of it is just practical. I don't want to spend a lot of time on the phone, back and forth with law enforcement officials in South Carolina when the odds are pretty good a). I'll never get the money/pickup anyway and b). nothing is likely to come of it legally, anyway.

I have a friend here in town who is a policeman, and I'm always amazed when he talks to me about people caught in crime and how little time, if any, they're likely to get. These days, you have to cause serious bodily injury or do something really serious to get any time, it seems.

pursue it with the po-po. hands down the best and most responsible thing to do, even if you don't get your money back. when he gets a visit from kojak, he'll understand the ramifications of screwing people over...especially with something that can carry such an offsense. maybe he'll cough up the $75 to keep from getting in too much trouble with the coppers and you can fill up gstring85's tank withj gas. either way, getting in touch with the police isn't really a matter of causing the guy trouble as it is seeing justice done...that way, you will also know that he probably won't be doing this sort of thing to anyone else again.

i do agree that adam has handled this gracefully. however, i must say that it's easy to jump on the band wagon to lambaste someone else. i have bought from bmac and he has bought from me before and we have never had a problem. i can't imagine i'm the only one here who has not had a problem with transactions with him. i must also say that i remember him mentioning that his father has an ongoing illness (cancer?) that requires him to be with him for long stretches of time (he never used this as excuse to delay shipping stuff to me; he mentioned it when he actually bought from me and he wanted it sent soon before he leaves town to visit his father). this is the context.

adam, sooner or later bmac will be back on the forum. i really don't see going to the police would help you or bmac. maybe i'm too nice but going to the police to ruin a person's record for $75 is just too much. hell, if you are in desperate need of a pickup i may have one i can send you. i'm not sticking up for bmac--i'd do this for any member here. i'm just weighing the gravity of the situation. also, going to the police and later finding our that his dad finally died or some other family stuff would make you feel like an ass. do what you feel sits right in your heart.

as for the argument of doing "justice" by punishing someone else "so they won't do it to others anymore," in most cases this is not real justice. if one examines one's heart what one sees is revenge. revenge will never bring justice no matter how one intellectually justify it in one's head... no matter how altruistic one sounds. it also won't stop a person from doing something. acting out of revenge will bring you grief.

adam, do what sits right in your heart.
