I agree with the choice of 'The Hunter' - hard to beat Lynch! I have so many favorites but here's one of the less obvious ones. This whole album is amazing.

Bolt on necks are cool because you can take them off and use them as swords to fight your friends with. Wait, actually, bad idea. Unless you have a shield (Hint hint: the body)

I posted this earlier but couldn't find a vid. Here is Dokken Walk Away with vid. I love the emotion of the guitar all the way through but go to 2:30 and tell me if George has ever played with more emotion? This was right before they split and didn't get on an album of its on but was included at the end of the live Beast From The East albumn.

Yep, that entire song is epic, and Zakk's guitar work is top notch! I agree about the solo building. That's probably a secret ingredient of most of the best solos...starting off slow and mellow and eventually spewing fire!

I guess that I do have a second favorite. Pat's sultry voice and bad girl looks complements bad ass guitar riffs perfectly. Enjoy the solo around 2:35

Nice! Her husband, Neil Giraldo, has been her lead guitarist all through her career (I think) and plays some great leads. My favorite is the one from Heartbreaker.

I'm with eerbt on this one,too many to name really. I had to think hard on this one. Eruption,Fade to Black, and War Pigs jump out at me.

Only one really still gives me the chills when I hear it. Randy had this swing in the harmony in his solos that you just don't hear.

Hands down for me. Ten Years After playing "I'm going home" on the Woodstock LP. Why? Because Alvin Lee is my Guitar Hero. It was played live at Woodstock in less than good conditions. It was about as raw as it gets. http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...8803664817506#

I'm kind of torn as to what to post as my favorite solo. Marty Friedman and Andy LaRocque are my favorite guitar players, but Judas Priest has some really excellent solos as well. Here's a couple of solos I find noteworthy.

Tornado of Souls. I would think most people would be familiar with this one. It's generally regarded as Marty's high water mark. Solo starts at 3:10.

Judas Priest. The face melting starts at 2:37

Accusation Chair. Andy LaRocque and Pete Blakk tear it up on this one. 2:32. I think the whole album has to be listened to front to back to be truly appreciated. Probably my #1 of all time. Mikkey Dee also gets my vote for greatest drummer ever. He's usually not too flashy, but everything fits perfectly!

That's actually my favorite G'N'R song...much better than the overrated November Rain IMO! And yes, Slash kills on that second solo. The whale sounding volume swells are great, followed by the epic bit when he rises up out of the water and plays that screaming bend/stationary note combo! Every time I pick up one of my double hum guitars (especially my new Epi LP), I invariably switch to the neck pickup and play that part just to feel the screaming goodness as the waves interfere with eachother so beautifully...a classic LP sound!

Damn only one? that is a hard one to pick. But if I could only pick one it would be this.

How Randy came up with that smoking solo with a "peaceful/slow sounding song" is beyond me?

Solo is at the around the 4:35 mark in the song.!

Then you have this killer solo. Wow what a smoking lead. I have plenty of them but these two would be my "go to" pics as of now.

    solo starts at around 1:27

And from the "you have probably never heard of them?" I would have to say this solo/song as it just screams Rock-N-Roll

Okay, I was thinking of the wrong songs! The solos in Pull the Plug by Death are fantastic. The first solo by Rick Rozz is what I consider his best. And it's incredible. On From Beyond by Massacre, Rick is actually kind of a pathetic soloist. He had some serious limitations, but this solo was his highest moment. Lots of whammy bar use and tapping. It's the "Slayer" type of death metal solo. And it perfectly sets up Chuck's solo which is shredding and melodic (and the word "stately" comes to mind for reasons not quite known). The two solos juxtaposed like that also kind of presents what death metal has to offer. It can be brutal, evil and noisy, but that doesn't mean that those are the only things on the table. Pull the Plug is a great song. I've been listening to it for years and loving it even more each time. I have a feeling it'll stay that way. Simply well executed death metal.
I'm happy to see someone added a Death solo to this thread, but I'm surprised it was a Rozz solo when Death had so many other more talented lead players contribute to later albums. His whammy style was a great contrast and compliment to Chuck's style back in those days, but I would put him at the bottom of the barrel when it comes to ranking Death solos. I liked the Massacre stuff, but when I saw them play live Kam Lee bad mouthed Chuck for pretty much the whole set which kind of turned me away from them a bit. Inhuman Condition has a great solo on it, although the best one isn't Rozz's.

Getting back to Death solos, I think my personal favorites are off of Spiritual Healing because I love James Murphy's solos. Chuck and James are two of my favorite guitarists and Death is one of my favorite bands.

Very nice choices, Helterbot! I should have tried to find a solo from Priest because I love those guys. Glen and KK were late starters, but they just always kept getting better. They were always adding things to their repertoire. Love those guys to death. Andy is also fantastic! I also love the guitar tone on Them.

Ghast, I could have picked several other Death solos, but that one's always stuck out to me. Rich definitely isn't the best, but he really got his shit together for Leprosy. I'd say of the type of soloists out there like Rozz, Trey Azagthoth, I could have picked a solo from Leprosy all the way to the Sound of Perseverance. I love Murphy's playing a load, too. Of his I really enjoy "Dying" by Obituary a lot. He and Chuck really ripped it up on Spiritual Healing, too. I love that one. I also love Paul Masvidal's playing on Human (and in general). "Flattening of Emotions" was pretty high on my list of Death solos. Bobby and Shannon don't impress me as much as James, Paul and Andy, but they're also very talented. They always had a great roster for that band.

I should have also tried to find a Bathory solo to recommend. D'oh! Bathory is my favorite band by miles, but I didn't think of them.

This is really too hard. Don't ask me my favorite riff. That'd be impossible.

    Enjoy "Wake Up Dead," too.

    83 Kramer Voyager
    87-88 Ibanez 540s
88 Gibson V90 (Only the nut is original)
    The Blindworm "Pendulum"

    Not too many guitars anymore!
