honestly ah think ya lookin fer a new amp....
those mg's are real...well, they be okay fer practice an such at low volumes, but win it comes to things like this, ah say save up fer a new tube amp, or a real good modeling amp.
just my little imput
My rig consists of a Kramer Pacer Classic, Marshall MG50FX, and a ZOOM G1. I'm looking for a distortion pedal for mostly 80's style rock, particularly like EVH, but I don't want to spend over $100. So far I've been considering a BOSS DS-1, the Digitech Hot Rod multi-distortion, MXR distortion+, and the Boss DS-2. Thanks!

Kramer Focus 3000/Custom Strat-> Boss ce-3-> MXR 78 modified overdrive->Custom Tube od pedal-> MXR phase 90-> Boss noise supressor Bogner Alchemist/ Amp simulators->Various Delays->Boss CS-3 Compressor (no order -3-)
If ya ears aint bleedin', ya aint loud enough ta git the job dun'.
What kind of amp would you recommend then?
Watcha lookin to do? Bedroom? Practice jams? Gigging? Watcha willing to spend?
Also I agree to find a decent tube drivin amp over a distortion pedel.
I really like my Orange Tiny Terror. Been gassing for a TH-30 too. Orange can get that Marshall 80's tone very easy but you'll spend a bit more.
Peavey makes a good tube amp that is affordable,Jarrod's Windsor is a good example. Vox does but I found them to be a bit thin sounding and sold mine off. Of course Marshall, love my JCM 900. LOUD as all hell though, that's a good thing.
^aye, heheh, agreed!
The windsor may not be perfect but damn its good fer its price aye!
ya git 100 watts of pure tube power, and it be amazing fer what ah play (the same stuff ya do actually VH, hehe ;3)
ya can find em anywhere from 100 ta around 200 used, ah got my fer 150. ah say give it a try! ya never know if ya might like it!
however though, if ya want a bedroom amp or somthing fer low volumes, this baby aint really fer ya eh? She is damn loud...heheh ;3
lower volume amps ah know many recomend blackstars....or maybe even some egnators of some sorts...
it all comes down ta what YOU like though! go ta GC and check out some nice tube amps eh?!

I'm willing to spend hopefully less than $500, but can do around $700. The biggest thing I'll be doing will be playing in a decent-sized performing arts center with 1,500 seats.
^ Like ah said, try out some nice amps that ya are interestied in. Ah still recomend a Windsor!
100-200 fer a head, another 75-10000000000 fer a cab x3. That should do ya well.
or find a nice combo!
just try it and makes sure ya like it!

Would you recommend the Peavey Valveking 112/212?

Just an example of a great combo with killer distortion that is in your range.
For that kind of money you should be able to find something killer that will sound a whole of a lot better than any distortion pedal.
valvekings are nice but the 6505s like recommended above are godly...

6505 for '80s? Hmm, I suppose it'll do it. Certainly better options. Like the Valve King. Carvin X100. Peavey Prowler.

..... the REAL Ben....
A good used 90s Peavey 5150 combo 2x12 is perfect in that price range.
I still have it and it does its work nicely. Unless you could get a JCM800 that's my first choice at the moment.
Hello,
Stefano
Look in the used section get a lot more for your money. I don't know what they go for in the US but if possible look out for a JCM800. Combo wise try a 4010 or 4210. Head wise the classic is the 2203 all are loud as hell but they have that 80's tone.
All good choices and advice you have been given in this thread for gigging rigs but these only work at their best when that master volume is cranked so if you still need a home amp or for practice I would keep the MG or sell it and buy something better.

Thanks for the help! So far I'm interested in the Peavey Windsor combo, the Peavey Valveking 112, and the 6505/5150. Which one would you say is the best?
my oppinion the 6505/5150 but that is still all up ta ya...
btw, the Windsor combo is a much different beast then its head brother...just sayin ;3

Something to consider:
The 5150 and 6505+ are going to be very similar tonally, less honk then the Windsor might have, as the Windsor is supposed to be more of a Marshall where the 5150/6505 is based more on a Soldano circuit (more modern sounding).
80s rock tone is a lot less based upon distortion, and a lot more based upon certain EQ characteristics (bright, high mids, not a lot of bottom)
