Default Focus 2000 nut: more original than the original

I always liked my old F2000, but that R2 nut was a little narrow for my big fingers. The shelf cut area of the neck was wider than the nut and I had always wondered if an R4 nut would fit. I finally ordered one on Ebay (actually an R4/2; R4 width with R2 height) and it fit perfectly. I just had to widen the mounting screw hole on the treble side a little. The new nut fills the shelf area and it really does look like it was made that way. It also makes it easier for me to make chords cleanly. I wonder if the older Focus necks were made for the wider nut and narrower nuts were fitted for some reason.

It's possible. Kramer used whatever parts they had on hand. I have an F-2K and it's a great guitar.

I hadn't seen that thread, but I did do some research on this site as well as a few others. There's a surprising amount of info on these guitars considering that the real ones haven't even been made in a couple of decades. I've done a little upgrading on mine over the years. I changed the pickups and replaced the pots, switch and jack with American parts. The tone pot is a push-pull for coil splitting. I don't think I'll ever get rid of it.

Interesting... I always though my Focus neck's board was a little too wide for the nut as well... those tapered sides just stick out a little too far... still sounds and plays well, just has a very distinguishable feel/profile.

They really kicked up the necks with the F-thousand series imo. They have a more tight D shape that fits the R2 perfectly... they also have a much thicker slab of rosewood, and the nut sits on the rosewood as opposed to the maple on the foci.... not to mention that they aren't covered in a quarter inch of laquer either

Three-piece necks were a nice upgrade on the F series, too.
