Default Any Ford mechanics in the house?

I was a Ford tech for several years but not an emmisions tech. I've got an issue with my 94 F150 5.0 that I haven't been able to figure out. It seems to be an EGR problem. The engine runs rough at low throttle with the EGR plugged up but runs fine with it unplugged. I put on a new EGR valve and EGR solenoid but the EGR will be open when it should be closed causing the engine to run rough. Anybody got an idea about what could be the problem?

My advice as it has worked for my on cars that I didn't work on. Find a Ford Forum. You will find many people that just love to tell you all about your car and what is the most commen thing that might be the problem. I know you don't want to keep buying parts as that stinks. Best of luck.

I joined 2 f150 forums and have had more response, helpfull or not, here than I've had there. Kind of pitiful.

I had a similar problem with my 96 explorer. I had to have the idle very high or it would almost die. It turned out to be the Idle Air Control Valve. Cost me about $40. Onced I replaced it I was able to drop the idle significanlty and the engine ran very smooth. I was under the impression that it was an EGR issue.

    The part looks like this.

Ok I will give you my "best shot" at what I think it might be as some Honda's would have the same problem. It might be the EGR runner's in the intake manifold that are plugged up. Again just what those Jap cars would have problems with. Once again best of luck.

LMK or the forum know when you fix her.
