Default Antique Radios and a Cool old Guitar

Flea Market and and Antique mall yields this week.

    A quick couple of pics.
    The flea market yielded little.
Antique mall can be a pain when you're competing against
young rich couples looking to fill up their mini-mansions.
    The ugly radio works.
The other looks cool but doesn't light up.

That is one cool guitar. Let me know if you need radio tubes. I think, I have a few hundred.

    Guitar is "Made in Japan".
One wire was broken, works now.
It's had A LOT of love in the past.

    Mrs. Cygnus likes it!

Anywhere I look those radios are worth about 20 bucks.
    So not restoration prospects.
With an 8" speaker they are great candidates for little grab-n-go guitar amps.

+1 on cool guitar. When I got my first guitar (when I was 12), the parents of the kid down the street bought him one that (if I can remember 1966 at all) looked just like that. I think (though I can't be sure) that his was from Sears.
Beaks, nanas, and pointies, Oh my!
Still gigging after all these years.

    Well, uh...Mrs. Cygnus scores again.

    A Magnavox console.
    (2) 5y3GT's and (4) 6V6GTs'...plus iron.

Hey, Fred Sanford, where are you going to put all these great snags?

    Hah!
    Look who's talking!

Actually I was busy gutting and classifying/storing parts when she called me about this.
ScrapMan went into action, leaping gleefully into his fleet-footed vehicle to save the day!

Looked up the Magnavox, figured out it's worthless as a unit, and it is now down to
the bare parts I would use.

    Efficiency leads to tidiness!

She talked the Goodwill manager down to less than half the tagged price while I
gazed with pride, lost in love.

Might as well keep adding to this thread rather than starting new ones every weekend.

    Today's finds:

Zenith C730 all tube tabletop AM/FM radio.
Works, sounds quite lush for a tabletop.

    Kalamazoo Model 2 guitar amp.
Works, it needs the usual upgrades.

And a RARE Pearl FG-01 Flanger.
    Works, and sounds really nice.
    Ugly though.

    What's in the bag?
Complete set of spare tubes for the radio.

Mrs. Cygnus saw the radio...I missed it completely.

Add another: Realistic Model 105 Tube Tester.
I have not fired it up yet but it is very compact and just looks
    cool!

I have a 60's Emenee Keyboard accordian I regret daily. Doh!

But my Ampeg was Magnavox made. I did pick up a V4 4x12 today though.

    Cool on the 4x12 find!

In contact with the Wurli owner.
He does not know what "vacuum tubes" are, even after I described them.

I know it's a 4040 but having a REAL tough time finding info on it.

Didn't Wurlitzer make a ton of models?

And the V4 is pretty rough.... but its a good project for restoration. Eventually i'll have a full V4 Stack... Mmmm... I've always loved that early 70's Rolling Stones sound.

    Update!

    This weekend's flea market finds.
The Silvertone mono console isn't much really.
The old "All American 5 Tube" which yields little but a few usable parts.
Mrs. Cygnus see potential in that cab though, and we'll figure something out.

The RCA tabletop as pictured is after I carefully disassembled it and fired it up.
    It works!
Best of all, it's a more modern circuit with a good set of iron including a 5Y3 and 6V6GT power section.
    12AT7 preamp.
    Sound familiar?
Cab is big enough for a healthy sized 8" speaker of any dimension.
    Mahogany veneer.
    SWEET!

I once saw a guy who grafted a hi gain Mesa head into a big old Jukebox/radio like that.

    That was my FIRST thought.
Build a high gain Cygnus amp into it.
Keep the radio dial for the cool factor and put a baffle on the bottom.
There's plenty of room for a 12" speaker.

Heh...I did do something with that Silvertone console.
I built a Spitfire clone into it.
    Sounds great!

    Why the bump?
fett found a similar mono console recently and was wondering what to do with it.
His is a Motorola which is a much higher quality unit.
I recommend a recap and leave it as-is.
