    Default Finish question

Hey. I have a kramer that had a very semi pro paint job. It had bubble wrap imprints on the finish from shipping. I buffed most of it out but it needs something. I don't want to remove too much finish. The finish was almost gummy when I got it. It's been several months and it seems better. But what would you recommend ibdo to give it more of a protective shine? Wax? Just don't want to rake too much off and fade the paint job in the process. Thanks in advance! Pete

    this would be a question for Kammo1 ( <- link )

it sounds as if the finish wasn't totally cured when it was shipped. it's been several months and you've done your own work on it, so there's no telling if the place that did it would choose to be responsible for any problems from the workmanship.

if you're certain you want to tackle it yourself, check out the Mequiar's line of products. #6, #7 and #9 are pretty good for me when it comes to keeping things cleaned and polished. but... look them up online, get the toll-free # and call them... explain what's going on and they can suggest the best products for your needs. depending on what it is, it's ususally +/- $10 per bottle.

Yep, the same thing happened to me. The dude used the wrong paint. It does take months for it to cure if it ever will. My suggestion is to strip it and do it right.

Sucks. Thanks for the replies. I feel like it's hardened but want to salvage it as much as possible. I have a bunch of Maguires. Awesome stuff. Assuming that I use the right stuff, should I use my portable buffer or go by hand? Thanks again

    DO NOT WAX IT YET!

If that re-finish is newer then 120 days, don't wax it. There are tail solvents that need to come out of the coatings. If you seal them in with wax you can trap them in and wreck the paint job.

OK. Thanks for the advice on the wax. Should I use a buffer or by hand?
