Default Ampex A692 Vintage Tube Amp

Wife and the sons got another flea market SCORE.

No time for pix but this gives an idea of what it is:

So, what's so cool about it?

First, wife knows what to look for.
    "It looks like a suitcase".
    "It's heavy".
    "It has vents".

    And...

    "I see glass".

That's some good detective work for a tube gear novice.
    She is a keeper!
(I've known that for many years...and she got me, not the other way around...)

And, no I'm not telling what she paid, but it was dirt cheap.

I deconstructed it just enough to look around.
The 6AX5 rectifier is shot, but no other apparent damage.
Pentode preamp. 12AU7 phase inverter and 2x 6V6GT's.
Don't know much about that speaker but it LOOKS expensive.

I think I have that rectifier kicking around somewhere...just have to
find it and ease this thing up on the variac to see what is up.

We can make up if you happen to have a 6AX5 tube lying around.

Don't hate me, hate my wife.
She is the one that buys the great stuff right before your eyes!

    Bought the 6AX5 and...

    It fired up!

Sounds OK but it will need a cap job, fully expected and no problem.

Gut shot and JBL 8" full range speaker.
This thing gets rave reviews from the hifi crowd.

Well I did the cap job today, cleaned it up and...
I kind of see what the audiophiles like but I guess I'm spoiled.

Thinking of selling the speaker and gutting the amp for other meaningful purposes.
    HINT.
