Default LTD..Its not the guitar, its the player

Skid Row, well seasoned 80's veterans we can all agree (well maybe not all). But hey have proven they know how to rock...:34 seconds in playing an LTD. And again at 1:50.

Makes me feel better about buying lower end guitars.

There are some notable players using LTDs. But IMO that clip doesn't sound too good.

Aaah, one of my fave bands. Their debut is still on my alltimehigh-list. Their sophomore not so except maybe "In a darkened room". But who the f@€k is this singer. Sounds like one big heap o' shite. I know that Seb Bach isn't up to his former self/voice nowadays but this guy shouldn't be allowed into this band. But that's just me and my sole opinion.

    Greets,
    Christian

P.S.: Nothin to say against a budget guitar even if one is up to his game and finds his way without breaking fingers from low to high E.

That mix is def. not off the board.

Fingers more than quality of guitar, IMO.

So, buying a $5000 guitar won't make you an awesome player just by buying it? Ok, I can finally see that now. But what about the guy with 80 guitars? That has to mean he's an awesome player. Right?

He's playing the new(ish) MH-327, which is like a $599 guitar. They're pretty nice axes, really. I've thought about nabbing one.

Neck through, ebony, mid-level Floyd (which they've probably swapped out, I'd bet). Prob. dropped their choice of pups in, too.

Really, not THAT far off, spec-wise, from a hum sing Stagey.

Nothing wrong with lower/mid level guitars at all, especially in the last 10 years. They all can be set up and played about equally well nowadays; the difference is 1) quality of materials, construction, parts, and finish, and 2) stage bling.

I don't own an LTD but I do have some Chinese built equipment. Not a whole lot but a handful of stuff. All of it sounds or plays as it should. I absolutely love my Epiphone Masterbilt acoustic. Incredible feel and sound. Handmade. Zero issues. Same with my VJs and my new VHT Special 6 Ultra. I have a few Chinese made pedals. They work perfect. I have yet to find this blatant 'poor workmanship'. So, where is it?

Every time I get a new instrument, if it doesn't immediately make me an exponentially better player then I automatically draw the conclusion that Clearly, it MUST be defective and I send it back

I send a LOT of em back

This thread reminds me of the time a friend who is a GC salesman told me of the time a fellow came in and bought a Carvin legacy head and cabinet half stack and a high end Ibanez Jem then called back a few days later asking 'why the f*ck he didn't sound like Steve Vai"

Wow, this singer straight up sucks when it comes to hitting the high notes. So far off it's not even funny. He seems like an alright dude and not a bad front man in general, but I just don't think he's a good replacement for Sebastian. I guess he's good buds with the rest of the band for them not to have found someone better over the last 13 years.

Sorry, I know this was originally about the LTD guitar but after hearing this guy butcher enough songs I couldn't help myself from commenting on it.

Default LTD..Its not the guitar, its the player

LTD guitars are excellent...particularly the Korean ones which I have more experience with.

The thing is, of course a great player can make any guitar sound better. Great playing is great playing. If the intonation is in and the thing doesn't keep cutting out & holds tune half-decent then it will sound great with a great player.

All things being equal...great player on crap vs. great player on great gear?

It'll be the great gear every time.
Sometimes you make a statement, and some bonehead comes in and references something that you aren't even talking about - I love that.

    Agree 100 %

Most of the problems with chinese made equipment these days are control quality issues fails, not poor workmanship anymore IMHO

Hm, if that´s it, you´re right. But what about a mediocre player with great gear vs. a great player with chinese junk? My bets´d be on the great player anytime

I was just surprised to see him using an LTD, thats all I was saying. And I was glad to see "pro" players using the same equipment I buy. Thats all.

    Just an interesting observation.

It al depends upon how crappy the gear...if the guitar goes out of tune like crazy or the amp keeps cutting out - I'll take the better gear.

Indeed. Stuff generally only reaches a certain point of quality, then after that it is detail and bling/special appointments.
