    Default NAD-VHT Special 6 Ultra

Fantastic amp that is super mod ready. Stock it sounds great. But I will swap tubes as the stockers are unmarked Chinese tubes. Tone wise it is eerily similar to my Peavey Prowler. Thats a good thing. Lots of gain! It's loud. Really, really loud. Cranked WFO it is a gnats ass quieter as the Prowler. Not bad for 6 Class A watts. Remember, class A is noticeably louder than class a/b. Birch constructed box, quality speaker, hand wired, great tone that can only get better and über modable. Can't wait to dig in! New tubes then I'll add reverb then maybe a speaker if I don't dig this one.

Cool little amps, my local mom and pop store had about 5 of those they were selling for $279.00 I went to pick one up and they were all gone!! They sounded great, let us know what mods you do and how they effect the sound. I"ll end up with one eventually!

Yeah, like my VJrs it's WFO! Yup, 1x12. After the reverb mod I plan on a channel switching mod. Not that I'll use channel switching much, if at all. But the fun is in the modding.

A couple of things to note. The watts knob is an attenuator. Very nice. The Depth knob and Texture switch adjusts the eq quite a bit. The volume boost is foot switchable. Effects loop, speaker jacks, impedence switch on the back. Lots of bang for the buck.

I've been eyeing these for a while but haven't heard much talk on them. I'll be looking forward to hearing more. I think it is cool that it has a built in attenuator.

Hey Rick, it's been a month since you got this amp. What do you think about it now? Still loving it? Tell us the pros and cons please.

Absolutly still love it. I have replaced the tubes with some JJ's which I like. I also tried some E-H tubes. Funny thing is that while the JJ's are what I like best, the E-H and even the no name stockers sound great. The differences are tiny but still slightly noticable. I really dig the Ultra channel. Lots of gain. The gain cranked all the way can become fizzy. I keep it dialed back a bit and found what I consider the sweet spot. Yeah, great amp. 6 watts and very loud. Super modable. Great tone new but really great tone after some use.

I know it's very "mod ready" but is it good enough to keep stock and just use to wail on?

Absolutely! But it isn't the be all end all of amps. It's a great, single end low watt amp.

Thanks Rick! Keep us posted with mods and sound clips. I'm looking for a nice little bedroom practice amp that will take pedals well and have good clean, blues and mostly 80s rock tone. Will this cover it?

It takes pedals like a champ. I've been using an MXR Fullbore Metal and an Ibanez Sonic Distortion a lot lately and love it! Clean is great and getting a good blusey growl is fantastic. '80s tone imo isn't really there unless pedals are used. Mods and sound clips aren't on the horizon anytime soon.
