For what it's worth, my USA creds date back to the Revolutionary War. So what? Am I big fan? I'm not sure. In the almost 62 years, I have seen the USA rise and almost fall a few times. It doesn't matter now that we have gone Global. I'm sitting here in my sardine cans just in a state of dread.

It is difficult to explain to an American what is happening now in Europe. It is as if the citizens of Oregon would oppose the intervention of the Federal Reserve to rescue the AIG, or the purchase of U.S. government bonds because they do not want to pay for the mistakes of Californians and NewYorkers bankers, or for real estate surpluses in Nevada and Florida.
It is humbling to see how European politicians (not call them "leaders" because they only do what polls suggest them) drive Germans, Dutch and Finns against Italians, Spanish, Greeks, Portuguese, and Irish. If you want to keep together a country you need to push on what was most precious: being part of a community.

Trust me. I have listened to all the comparisons. EEC v USA. The one thing I know is we have 50 states. Hell, before Italy became a country, they had 20? little independent whatevers. So did Germany. Here is the irony. It took us just over 200 years to become THE POWER. Somehow we figured out how to take a bunch of boat people and build a country. I know we had a gigantic landmass ripe for the picking. I also know we made deals to get the land or just kill the natives. Maybe a little war with the Mexicans. The thing that will be the ruin of the EC are grudges that have lasted hundreds of years and were forgotten when everything was fine. I have a vested issue with goes on over there. It a Global Thing.
