    Default NGD: Supro Dual Tone

I've been wanting one of these for a long time, a Supro Dual Tone, this one is a 1956 model. I got it at a decent price as it needed some work, a new switch and such. I'm lovin the ball bat neck and of course my man, Link Wray played one in the early 60's...pure raunch!

Hell yeah, nice! I've always wanted to get my hands on a Danelectro Longhorn, why? Here's why:

Link Wray, is a god . You should check out a CD called Wray's Three Track Shack, picked it up for some classic, hard to find Link Wray.

Wow, really diggin' that! Looks like a great player with some quality hardware that simply isn't as prevalent in instruments anymore.

rotary selector switch and volume and tone knobs for each p90?

i bet that thing gets that big nasty (as in amazing) surf tone.

i have to be the geek and ask the technical question. is that a wooden supro? or am i thinking of a different company that used fiberglass... were those actually called resos?

and the old danos and even some of the reissues bug me because there isn't an adjustable truss rod... that always made my head hurt.

Yes, I have the Three Track Shack CD's and that is some great stuff with Link doing some bare bones roots music. I don't have a Danelectro Longhorn but i do have a Jerry Jones version, very faithful to the original unlike Eastwoods miss on the old Supros and Airlines. Check out this clip of Link from the 70's

da5hcharl, Yes that is a rotary switch and vol. and tone for each single coil, they look like hums and are even mentioned in the Gibson humbucker patent. There is no truss rod on this beast either, there is a large magnesium or aluminum bar inside the neck which is conected to the body with 1 bolt! This is a wood model, Supro changed to fiberglass or "resoglass" in the early 60's. Supro, Airline or National are all basically the same guitar made by Valco

Yeah, thats because the pickups are not recessed, they mount on top of the body, so the bridge has to get up high to clear them

thanks for answering the tech questions.

I can't believe the pickups sit on top of the body that must feel like a mile between the strings and the body.
