right as some of the bro's on here i am now loving 80s soft rock pop metal, and ive come across MIKE LANDAU's playing on some cher and michael bolton tracks.
obviously sounds likes a chorus but its very very thick, comes through incredibly when played on cd .....
i also watched cher's live dvd from 1990 and a guitarist called dave amato plays with a tone, that blows the surround sound !
im going to post three clips and see whether the experience and knowledge in all of you can help me out

Growing Up
Imo some of the best guitar sounds in the 80s are to be found on the pop oriented albums (before anyone flames me, i just said "some"). Reason is simple, it was the haydays of studio guitarists. Since Beat It every pop musician was keen on having a nice guitar sound on his album. One fine example is Dan Huff, best booked studio gun in the mid to end 80s with monster chops and a classy sound and his 3 Giant albums are outstanding (saw an interview that he gave lately where he stated the following "I don't use chorus-effects anymore. I used up all of it back in the day"). So, there is nothing to critizise regarding the musical style. Can't help with the sound since I'm not getting access to the vids on my side of the pond.
