Well the more I think about it .... its pretty easy to say what someone else should do with THEIR GUITAR Ken.... you could do like the guy did with my reissue "STRUM IT A FEW TIMES"...and the put it back on the stand but very valid point think it might be in top 1/4 percent of all krammers out there you litlerally struck gold... And no definite plans when Ashley And I are comming up but seeing that "she said yes" gotta have her meet the family BEFORE we get married... and malone is only a couple hours from ya so OF COURSE I was gonna pop in and see your GRAIL in person and the family! Did I mention I'm STILL searching for the middle finger button on the smartphone keypad?
If I practiced as much as I looked for guitars I'd be Eddie Freakin V.H. by now!!!!!!!!!!!!

    WOW what a score..!!!!

I can still remember the first time I seen a brand new Sustainer in the music store. There was a guy next to me and we where both at it. I was like "man, I can't play that as I know I will end up wanting to buy it", he said the same thing but DID play it.. I think 1/2 hour latter her bought her.

I don't know what I would do if that was mine?

Shame to play it as it will get a mark here and there.
but also a shame NOT to play it as that was what it was made for.

    hhhmmmmmm

Wouldn't be a tough call for me as to what to do with that Museum Piece. Guitars are meant to be played and some are meant to be admired and preserved.
This one falls into the category of Museum quality.
Ken you got plenty of fine fiddles, preserve this one, I can't imagine anyone finding another of this condition with the original box, case candy, etc...
Besides, you've got plenty of money to buy another players condition Sustainer for half of less than what ya just paid for that stunning example. It is a true Time Capsule piece.
Wish it were mine but happy for you and belonging to a forum member.

What you just said is basically where my thoughts are at the moment. I'd love to play and enjoy it that way, but you and the others are right that I have other guitars to play and keeping this particular one in it's unplayed, untouched condition is probably the best way to enjoy it. And, yes, I think just eye f*cking it, as Ken says , on Saturday nights will be enough to satisfy me.

Actually you paid alot less than I thought you would of paid. For a guitar that basically is brand new for that age, I figured it was really ...
I'd put it one of those enclosed cases on the wall. Like you said, you've got others to play, this is a museum piece, dosen't need to be banged around.

If it were a claw neck holoflash sustainer, I'm sure the asking price would have been a lot higher. Actually, I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned the fact that it's BLACK.

Putting it in a wall display is not a bad idea...I'll have to look into that.

I think putting it on a wall display would be kickass! Seriously cool.

The color doesn't matter here, Ken. She's toooooo clean. Congrats again! Hey, have you checked out the battery(ies) in the compartment yet? Hopefully, it's as clean as the rest. So, I guess the Floyd Rose sig wasn't on all of the Sustainer pups? I'm fairly new to these. That is SO Kramer.

Still waiting for it to arrive but, yeah, I'm a little concerned about the battery. I appreciate that the seller didn't want to touch a screw but I do plan to open the control cavity. I'll let you know what I find!

If anyone owns one of these "early" models without a dedicated battery compartment, can you tell me if it's a 9v or 18v system?

WOW WOW WOW!!! What a story! So cool!! ...and congratulations on SUCH an exceptional find! I cannot tell you how good this makes me feel because I'm so right there with you dude. That's got to be one of the ultimate Krammer-addict scores. I'm just shittin' myself for ya man \m/

...just to chime in ...if this were a debate, or you were asking ....I'd store it as is! (maybe look into removing the battery?)

Your smokingly beautiful guitar would be "ruined" as a collector's piece if you messed with it. I believe it's a collector's item, not a player. It's such an exceptional collector's piece in my very very humble opinion.

FYI even though I own several Kramers and other guitars, I'm not a collector per se. I couldn't own a guitar and NOT play it ...much less an axe LIKE THAT SPECIFIC ONE.

Again, congratulations, that's one heck of a guitar!

my advice would be to just play the guitar

there are 1959 les pauls out there with values of $200,000 and maybe higher. people do play them.

there are pre-war martin guitars that are worth 40,000 out there that get normal play, wear and tear.

a full mint kramer like this one can't be worth more than 2k and it's not even that old! plus, was built to be played, not museum'd.

i say just take good care of it, but use it the way it was supposed to be used.

    Wow. What a story.

I'm in the "play it" camp. Beautiful as it is, that's what it was meant for.

I would like Vin to borrow his own time machine and go back in time prior to his cross dressing days. He was probably a normal cool guy back then....
