    Default R2 or R3 nut?

R2 nut on my Stagey now. Would there be big difference if I put an R3 nut on it. Would it increase string spacing a little or would it be too much?

It all depends on what you like. If I had an R3 neck with limited spacing on the low and high E, I would put an R2 on it. One thing I hate most is when the two E strings are to close to the edge and "fall off" when playing.

    An R3 nut would hang over the edges slightly R2 1 5/8.... R3 1 11/16

It depends on the neck in question...some will hold it fine, others will go over a hair...I guess you just have to try it out.

My experience: Older beaks...no chance. Pointies...most often. Naners: sometimes.

R3 is wider and will not fit if the neck was built for R2.

On paper yes, in theory yes, in reality no. You will have to try it first since every neck is different.

"Sloppy workmanship excluded", if you so wish. I ass-ume that the work was somewhat properly done and not with 2mm tolerance

Just trying to accomodate my thick ass fingers. There is a bit of room between the edge of the neck and both E strings. I guess I have to break down and buy a new Floyd so I was thinking of getting one with an R3 nut if it would have helped.

Can't you just measure it and compare the size to the table posted above? also no need to buy the whole assembly, nuts are available separately for like $15-20 or whatever the current price is.

I know I can buy it seperately. I have to change the Floyd to a Gold one anyway and I figured while I was buying one I would see if I could use the R3 nut.
