    Default My Baby (650B)

I bought my Kramer used in the late 70's because my fretless P-bass was just too muddy for the tunes I was playing. We saw 23 states together in the 80's playing 6 nites @ week(first pic). It's still solid as a rock and stays in tune forever(if you let it adjust to room temp first!!LOL)
My fretless Fender P and my standup Kay are long gone(along with much of my hair!!) but I'll never sell my Kramer!!

    Looks stunning...still!

I also think Kramer was on par with those pickups, the icing on the cake

ps. Just noticed the neck HB ring is gone...how come?

    Good eye!!
They made those pickup trim rings from walnut, not a good choice because no matter which way the grain is aligned you have 2 weak sides on a very thin piece of solid wood.It was very common for them to split at the screw hole, mine did just sitting in the case a few yrs ago.I've got both halves and could glue them back together but about that time, the other one will split LOL.I could make 2 new matching rings out of some more appropriate material but I should probably just take the other ring off too and see how I like that look.

Hi Don, I also have a 650B. I bought mine in 1978 when I was 15. I'm the only owner that bass has ever had and we've been through several bands together. I was just playing it today. Of all the basses I have or had, my Kramer 650B is STILL my favorite bass to this day.

What I found somewhat amusing about your pic was that my top pickup ring broke as well. Unfortunately, my ex-wife threw the two pieces out years ago. She found them, didn't know what they were and into the garbage they went. I was no doubt really pissed off about that! I sure wish I could find someway to replace it, but no luck.

    I'll post some pics later.

Great Stories Gentleman and Welcome to KF!

I always wanted a XL 6-string lumie. Hopefully someday I will find one.

A quick pic, but here she is. The strap is the original I bought with the 650B 33 years ago as well. ;-)

I saw a place that offers a polymer replacement pickup ring for these basses for $20ea but there's no picture but states they are available, notes that they won't make them from wood..

I'd think you could have some made up myself but how long will they last??

    Hey guys,

It doesn't look like it would be to terribly hard to make a couple of pick up rings. send me the inner/outer dimensions and thickness via PM. I'll knock a couple of them out next week.
