    Default Guitar Rig

I tried to get the brown sound by driving the front of the amp with an EQ (thats how I believe Ed got a stock plexi with so much gain, also probably had something to do with his Mighty Mite pickup, but thats another story)

So the stock marshall plexi cranked to the max on Guitar rig sounds like shit, hardly any gain at all compared to a real plexi, so I drove the shit out of the front end with a EQ and came up with this.. it's a bit muddy since I need to tweak the Cab EQ but what do you guys reckon?

LISTEN IN 720p OR THE SOUND SUCKS EVEN MORE =D

    :: Edit ::

Just listened to it through my headphones, it sounds GOD AWFUL compared to through my good speakers, BEWARE... ROFLFOL

Sounds great to me, brown indeed!

It's too polite to be a cranked Marshall, but that's one of the better Guitar Rig brown tones I've heard so far.

Any more brown, there would be skid marks.
Def a little more saturation needed.

That sounds about right to me :-) Now you need to export the bank and post it here for the rest of us GR users; is that GR3 or 4?.

It's indeed GR4... sure heres the bank. VanHalen - Brown No pedal All EQ.zip

Just so you know I was using a Pacer Classic (mahogany/maple) with a SD Custom Custom so it might need tweakin a bit for you!
Also theres a lot of extra stuff in the chain switched off, those are all testing things I used but didn't delete from the chain incase I wanted to go back to that setting and try different combos...

Enjoy, if you manage to improve upon it, share the love here

Awesome! Thanks!! I'll grab this when I get home from work and give her a try.

I plan on trying to tweak it for that perfect Ain't Talkin' Bout Love sound....but it is damned hard to get the phased portion of it right. I end up with too much modulation in the tone or not enough sweeping in the phased portion of the mix.

That sounds great, OM! One of the best simulated Brown Sounds I've ever heard. I'm really jealous! Good choice on the Custom Custom. I believe Seymour designed that to emulate Eddie's pickup - but added a bit more oomph to make up for the fact that most players wouldn't have dummy loads and extra heads in the signal chain to boost the gain like Eddie did.

Here's an article you may like - how to make an amp sim sound more analog through use of paragraphic EQ. I've tried this and it does work nicely.

Nope, the Custom Custom is identical to the EVH Frankenstein pickup. And what "extra heads" in the signal chain? He always used only one at a time.

I think he's saying that the Custom Custom was created to emulate the actual original pickup in Ed's Frankie...not the EVH Frankie pickup, which obviously came later, and as you said, is the same PUP as the CC (though with the magnet slightly degaussed, so not exactly the same). They are definitely both way hotter than the actual original Frankie PUP...more oomph as heem put it.

Default It sounded very, very close to Eddie's sound

I would say that it was just about dead on!

    Nice work!

Thanks again, great preset! I do need to tweak it a little to compensate for the stock Ibanez V8 pup in my 1550m. Then, the trick will be to get the phased sound right for Ain't Talkin'...........

Yeah the rhythm sound seems quite close, would be better he didn't use EMG's.

It's too controlled still though, same with mine.. a real plexi just squishes, it's too hard to replicate with software :(
