I saw that vid when the Fender Wolf came out.

I agree the ebmm is probably a nice guitar. I've heard ppl who said they tried a Fender Wolfy out and said they were unimpressed, even more considering the pricetag.

Ed - "let's see, guys...how can we take a Peavey Wolfgang, remake it with lesser materials and convince people it's an 'evolution' and sell it for 3 times as much..?'

Fender guy- "well, I KNOW!..we can give it stainless steel frets and , and , AND, I GOT IT!!..we can take a scoop out of the headstock, it will save us money too!"

Ed - "Yea, and we can use regular maple on the neck instead of bird's eye!!.. and use shittier tuners instead of Schallers!!..that will cut the build cost down!"

Fender guy - "Sweet, and listen..we have an old stockpile of quilted maple in the back of the warehouse we can use for the tops!!"

Ed - "GREAT!!,...ya think anyone will be able to tell it's really a rehashed Peavey Wolfgang at 3 times the price?....."

    Fender guys- ........NAAAAHHHHH!!!"

I haven't seen the USA Wolfgang but had the MIJ Wolfgang Special in my hand about a month ago. Not really impressed at all to be honest. I mean its not a bad guitar but if you compare it to lets say a used EB/MM Axis like the one I bought not too long ago its no comparison.

Default I was interested in the new wolfgang

I just lost some respect for Eddie when I watched the pitchman video he did for the new guitar.

This new guitar is now the "best." I know he's going to do that. I may still check it out when it's time to buy another. I'm leaning now towards a music man silhouette. A suhr is an outstanding guitar. I just don't know if I should spend that amount of money! I'm a recreational player. I don't play out.

I just lost a little too....come on man, I can put a good $80 pickup on a 2X4, screw a $125 neck on it and get damn close to the same "tone" as any of my other guitars. I agree I'm not a fan of pedals and like my saturated tubes but.....

And people say DLR seems like an a$$ ?

If I had to rank his signature stuff in terms of what "the best" are, I would say this is the order:

    1. Ernie Ball EVH (axis)
    2. Peavey Wolfgang Standard (maple cap archtop)
    3. Peavey Wolfgang Standard Solid Body
    4. Fender EVH Wolfgang.

I don't think the EVH Fender Wolfgangs are bad, I just don't think they are as good as Peavey Wolfgangs or Ernie Balls. While they added a few cosmetic differences and the stainless steel frets, overall, they feel "cheaper" to me than the Peavey's and EB's feel. I also don't like how they have Gotoh's now, instead of Schallers like on the Peaveys. Also, I've heard that EVH Floyd on there is a Korean Floyd, its not German. That being said, the Peavey's had Pings, and the EB's had Gotoh's. I think the Gotoh is the absolute best if you gave me the choice of all three. (German would win though if it were in the race)

At $2500-3000 street too, its a ripoff IMO. If he would have come out with $3k Peavey Wolfgangs from the get go in the 90's, yes it would have been expensive, but I think its overall a better quality instrument at $3k than the Fender Wolfie.

I love my Peavey Wolfgangs! I had a few I sold off and miss them like crazy. I think the Fender Wolfies are way overpriced....

I much prefer EBMM and the Peaveys as well.

The Fender EVH looks hot, but I don't like the smaller fret size. SS frets is a nice touch though.

I think I read somewhere that EVH put old OFR's on his most used Music Mans and Peaveys, but not 100% sure on this.

Heard that too, but the amber mm he used for so long has the gotoh on it, as seen in the young guitar mag close-up shots.

I personally love the frets on the new wolfie and the neck is amazing (it's the same shape as the previous evh's) tuners suck on it, I like how the floyd says evh on it but it didn't have much sustain the block. The body seemed to be dead, however I plugged it into a 5150 III and it sounded amazing, I also played the special MIJ and it too lcked sustain and was alot brighter sounding through the 5150 III. Both guitars are over priced which I say buy a body and neck from warmoth guitars and build a guitar that you will love or buy a kramer :p I love the the frets tho, I plan on ordering a neck with the same shape and frets.

The tuners on the new EVH's may not be Schallers but I have no problem with how they work.

I've never even played a wolfie, music man or any of the others EVH pimped axes out there. Hell, I couldn't even tell one apart from the other.

Ed has turned into a salesman. I would expect him to have his own infomercial soon with some brittish dude screaming about how great it is or the Sham cloth New Yorker telling everyone how easy it is to use.

We've seen this before from Ed starting with Kramer..."It's simply the best guitar period" and then to Peavey, Wolfgang now Fender....

It's all about the money. Who back in the day would have ever thought EVH would team up with fender?

How about this? Make a quality guitar for cheap. Advertise it as a beginner guitar for the young shredders and make it affordable. Or maybe this: Team up with Marshall and make a EVH plexi... have a drawing in every country it's sold and give one away.

I'm not bashing Ed, but man, make a fucking guitar that isn't geared towards a rich 50+ year old non playing guitar collector.

    Just my 2 lira.

And the mfr's are looking back on those going "Hell, if it worked for them, why can't we do it"

I guess to really get down to the matter we have to find out if EVH was approached by fender or EVH himself approached fender. Because I know no one here would turn down a multi-million dollar deal. Now, if EVH approached fender, thats a different story, that would just make him a master marketer.....

Never having played a EVH EBMM, Peavey Wolfgang or a Fender Wolfgang, I actually prefer the looks & hardware of the Peavey & the EBMM

Found this on youtube, Balance era. Ed was more genuine here

played a couple new EVH guitars in the store. lacking quality IMO. seems like the wood for the necks were not dry enough when they put the frets on. out of the box quality poor, sad to say.
a shitload of guitars & only 4 fingers.

I have both the Axis and the Peavey Wolfie and I could sell all the others as they're the greatest guitars I've ever played.
Well, I'd keep the 85 Baretta also.
