It's an heretical way, I know, but it works perfectly cause that product is rich of natural oils and beeswax and soften the dirt that will come out easily fedding the wood with its natural elements.
It's called "Pronto" here, dunno over there.

Just realize these product have a 'slight' abbrasive substance that take a micro bit of finish away...I use it on restoration/have played the guitar for 15 years and didn't maintain it a bit jobs...and yes it does work extremely well on a body!

Overhere it's called Pledge. Just don't use that stuff on a regular bases or on anything with a Nitro finish

Yeah, that's why I said I use it on unfinished necks.

If it's unfinished why don't you feed it with gunstock wax or tung oil?

Another tip for cleaning necks thats way less invasive than naptha on a fretboard (Careful doing naptha guys, you just might dry out your fretboard completely and it could "bleach" your wood).

    Murphy's Oil Soap

Dilute to about 50 water/50 oil soap - its ok, the water will not hurt the wood, its made for this type of application

    Toothbrush

Go fret to fret and scrub the board with the Oil Soap mixture. You'll notice alot of gunk on the tootbrush as you scrub. Continually wipe off the residue and keep it clean as you scrub.

After the first clean, take some lemon oil and re-oil the entire board, let it sit for an hour or so. To me, this lemon oil afterwards keeps the board moisturized to prevent cracking later on. Rescrub again if its still dirty.

On Rosewood, after the cleaning, just re-lemon oil the entire board and you'll be good to go.

On Maple, after the cleaning, use your favorite gunstock oil or tung mixture, then rewax with birchwood casey (if unfinished). If finished, just wipe it down with lemon oil.

I just did this last night on a NASTY Ibanez I bought at a pawn shop, and it worked like a charm. I even do this after I've brasso'ed the frets because you get that white residue on the board after you brasso if you haven't masked the frets off right.

Works perfect, and even cleaned up a dirty Wolfgang unfinished neck. It didn't get all the staining out, but it easily took out 60% of the dirty tint the fretboard had when I received it.

    Mike's tip of the day.

My tip is probably not a tip at all. But using a Dremel and that red polish paste that comes in the dremel kit polishes frets really well. Cotton wheel on the dremel at medium speed.

This is a tip though! DO NOT try to polish the rust off pickup pole pieces with the dremel. The plastic pup covers on top do not like the dremel at all! It will melt them.

On the subject of cleaning, I swear by Gorgomyte to clean and treat rosewood fretboards and polish frets.

It can be saved although about 3 saddles will need to be replaced due to the missing chrome. It can be cleaned up, but there is some pitting that can't be fixed. That thing has seen some serious water action/post katrina shit or something. I've never seen rust so bad before. Send it to me Jim to clean, or I can give you some tips on line.

    1. I'd put the entire thing in a wd-40 bath for about 4 days before I would even begin to tear it down followed by a 2 day dip in 3in1 oil.

With all the saddles needing replaced and the base having lifting and bubbling chrome, I'd pass.

LOL, give him a break, lol, but funny as hell. Amerturk, besides goats, which was brought up by skydive 69, lol, he's funny, oh, what other animals do you take interests in? I have a friend that husbands Lamas and he enjoys it alot. The time involved is almost catastrophic, but he wouldn't change it for anything else. Sorry i went off the subject, but interested in an answer none-the-less. Laterz Skydive69 and Amerturk have an awsome morning...

I wish they would. I'm down to my last couple of pieces and I've got a couple of string changes coming up.
