You can do it in a pinch. I used to do it all the time. But then again I never have had any high wattage amps either.

    What are you hooking up?

    You should be fine!
    Just dont:
    Chew on the cable
    Submerge it in water
    jump rope with it
    Use it to bungy jump
Pour 1000w of All tube power into it.

But in all seriousness, you should be fine.

    Thanks.

DON'T DO THIS. You can easily fry your output transformer this way. Get a proper speaker cable for the amp.

I'd forgot all about Radio Shack...just go to a guitar store. They are not that expensive.

I picked up a couple of three footers at GC last week.
I bought the Live wire brand, 16 gauge, fairly inexpensive, and lifetime warranty for 20 bucks

If your head and cab are far apart, I'd recommend going with 14 guage

Unless your pouring hundreds of watts of power thru em', you should be okay....
But be sure and avoid very thin cables.. for ex the ones that come with starter guitars, etc...

Dont waste your money on monster cables. Complete waste of money. We a/b a monster speaker cable with a cheap cable and there was no sound difference. Now as far as build quality I'm sure there better but you dont move a speaker cable much so I wouldnt bother. off subject a bit but its the same with hdmi cables. No difference why pay 90 bucks when you can pay 7 bucks with no difference. Its just 0 and 1's.

Its a speaker cable that you need. Why skimp? Spend a decent amount for a decent cable and thats that. What are you saving when buying a cheap cable? $20 whole bucks? There are smart places to be cheap and stupid places to be cheap. This is that stupid place.

This is the exact place to be cheap. You are buying a cable that wont be moved. What are you saving? a whole lot more than 20 bucks. But to each there own. If someone believes in the monster cable myth have at it.

    +1....
Some people are totally unaware of "audiophile marketing".

I've heard of fuses, YES FUSES, being sold for......

    40$!

"its got a solid gold/silver/uranium/WHATEVER core, and it improves your tone..."

Same goes with "pedal powerers" and "power strips" that "IMPROVE YOUR TONE!!!!!".

Since when is their "High end AC" and "cheap, crappy, AC?"

So, Nuclear power is any diffrent from Fossil fuel burned power?

AC is AC is AC is AC.
    Electricity is electricity.

(I apologize for the threadhack, and totally off topic topic)

    Thanks.

120V rated zipcords, like used on lamps works just fine.

Never use an instrument cable, even at low volumes. The output stage expects to see an equal load (plus/minus) and will react accordingly if it is not equal.

Did I mention Monster Cable? I did? No, I didn't. I just said to spend a 'decent' amount on a 'decent' cable. I've had the $5 crap cable to many times just to be dissapointed in 3 months time. $20 on a speaker cable is too much money? Are you kidding me? And whos to say its not going to be moved? You might keep your stuff in one spot all the time but whos to say he will?

20 dollars is not alot to spend but 20 more dollars added onto that for no reason is. Unless he is giggin out every weekend there is no reason for it. The speaker cable does not take the abuse that a guitar cable does. The point I'm making is there is not audible difference between the cheaper short cable and a really expensive one. Monster cable was just an example of a way overpriced overhyped cable.

Marshall halfstack is nicer than anything I ever used. I would just go get a 3' or 6' speaker cable and be done with it. You don't wanna take any chances on a nice rig like that

One thing I have heard is get one that isn't much longer that you need
