If anyone is interested in a Rockman Midi Octopus, I have one. It's 110v. Here in Australia we run on 240v. I can include a stepdown transformer for any Aussies out there. I bought it originally with the intent of turning my Seymour Duncan 84-50 Quadratone amp into a 4 channel tube amp.

I use mostly old 80's Rack items and the sound is so deep and varied - Rocktron, Lexicon, Digitech, BBE, ADA,Ibanez, Hush, Yamaha, Gallien Krueger etc.etc.

Bradshaw are the best midi foot controllers although Voodoo Labs are great too.

I would love a Eventide Harmonizer but just cant afford one sadly.

Default I used to have some rack gear.

In my effort to downsize and streamline, I sold it all.

There was a very good online site for setting up the boss gt-5. You could try to google it.

The info provided for setting up that particular unit was very informative for just understanding how to arrange devices or effects in a sequence that will sound good.

I have a book called multieffects for musicians. It's a general primer for understanding what does what.

Default Big Shot ABY from Radial Engineering

    Just throwing this out there:

I had tried everything to get rid of a nasty hum when I hook up both of my racks at the same time but I finally fixed it. I got a Radial Engineering Big Shot ABY and it works beautifully!! I can switch from ADA through 2 412's to Mesa & 2 412's and then kick in all 4 for a super fat sound with extra KICK!! Love it and highly recommend!!

Pacerguy, does that EQ in your rack make a difference sonically? I've never used one and am quite ignorant to settings on one.....

    Not trying a hijack...

but IF anybody needs/wants a 45 watt per channel stereo ( 90 watts bridged ) power amp .. I have one.. it is a older Yamaha amp.. 2 rack spaces.. Solid state.. ( I never had a problem hearing myself on stage or at home .. in fact there is head room.. ie: early to mid 90's )
that I WOULD let go for around 1 bill plus shipping to a rep. forum bro..!!!!

    no back to the thread..!!!!!
WOW... some of you guys have real nice set ups..!!!! :pimp

but my rack days are over.. just a plain old JCM - 800 or 900 Marshall head with a couple of dink boxes and I have my sound..

I ended up with the EQ when I bought my BBE 482, it was a package deal, so I figured why not try it out.
I was pleasantly surprised at the extra tonal shaping possibilities it has opened up.
I would recommend trying one out, especially for the guys playing out I'd much rather have my base tone from my Mp1 and then be able to fine tune for different setting with the rack mount eq

Oh as far as the settings... from the left to right... it would be Bass to Treble if that makes sense... Just think of it as your tone controls broken down into finer adjustments...
A 15 band (each channel) such as mine would be considered a 2/3 octave Eq,
A 31 band would be considered a 1/3 octave Eq, such as an Alesis Meq 230

    Here's mine...

    Furman power conditioner
Peavey Rock Master all tube preamp
    ADA MP-1 preamp
    RackWriter dry erase 1U spacer/cover
DOD 31 band EQ (not used) <--- *no longer in the rack
Furman ST-215 stereo EQ (not pictured)
    TC Electronic G-Major
    Peavey Classic 50/50 power amp

I mostly just route the signal from the G-Major into my PC using Guitar Rig 4 for speaker/cabinet sims. This way I can practice using headphones without bugging everyone in the house.
But when I want to annoy the neighbors I power up the Classic 50/50 into a stereo 4x12. It can get ridiculously loud.

Alright, not to try and revive a dead thread, but as it is stickied, I am figuring its not as bad

So, is the objective in a rack system to use your preamp to shape your sound, ie the MP-1, and then use a power amp to amplify it in the sense of a PA? Otherwise, wouldn't you lose your clean headroom?

Not sure how to answer the question, but every rack I've seen (with a few exceptions) have the pre and power amps seperate. Some use solid state PAs and some like me prefer tubes. The pre amp is essentially the same as in a head or combo, just a seperate component.

Gotta love the ADA Three Tube Mod, too. Just got mine back from Belgium recently, and it's awesome.

    That's quite a rack, CreemedBeef.

I'm curious how you'd compare the ADA and the Chameleon. The latter have been going for dirt cheap of late, and I've thought about picking one up ('cause once you go rack, you can never have too many preamps, right?)

My ADA was actually a 3.666, and it ROCKED SOCKS!

Teamed up with a Rocktron Intellifex and a good power amp, I would dare say, that might have been the best tone I've ever had, and therefore the best tone I've ever actually heard.

But if you want a great, all in one preamp to pair with a power amp and want great tone, the Chameleon will do that in spades.

I actually have a video of the Chameleon paired up with the Velocity, and it rips, and it has no tubes, which is nice for gigging. (Not that gigging with tubes is bad by any means, but if one is concerned about reliability, this is a great rig).

Chameleon is, from a dry tonal perspective, I'd say better than a Stock ADA, not as good as a 3.666, but pretty close.

Thanks for the comparo, CreemedBeef. That seems pretty similar to some other things I've read about the Chameleon. Definitely an underrated preamp, I think.

I'm home sick today ... the kids are at daycare ... mommy's at work ... and I just cleaned the kitchen.

Which means, of course, one of those rare days to let my rig rip a bit with a clean conscience (ie, not worrying about all the other things I should be doing)l.

I've posted it elsewhere, but I run my F-3000 into a Furman PQ3, into the ADA 3TM, Intellifex, Mesa 50/50, into an Avatar 2X12 with Celestion Heritage G12-65s.

    It pretty much rocks, too.

Now ... time to go rock, methinks.

Sounds like a damn fine rig!

I almost went back to a rack setup (went from that Fridge to a Soldano SLO, wasn't happy with the SLO) to a Hughes & Kettner Switchblade.

I'd say it does 95% of what the Rack did for me, just all in one box.

But, I still have a 6 space rack case in the house... you can bet on it being filled up eventually

Thanks, man. I've heard great things about those Switchblades, too. Heard a guy playing one in Guitar Center a while back, and it sounded terrific.

Every now and then I jones for a traditional head. Then I go play some ... and nothing I've played (that I could even hope to afford, anyway) is even close.

Also, the rack allows a kind of volume attenuation. It's not real, of course, but I can just barely crack the preamp output, then crank the power amp to get it singing. And, voila! Great tone at really reasonable volume levels.

I hear people talk about the need for attenuators all the time. And I guess the separate preamp/power amp approach seems like a lot simpler answer to me.
