Pretty cool stuff Dave. I need to learn how to play in one tuning first before I start switching up like that.
If anyone here is interested, here's a vid of the new Steinberger ZT3 guitar equipped with the latest version of the Transtrem (TT3) debuted at NAMM.![]()

I like the body styling. And I always like ST graphite necks. Does that guitar come with a graphite neck?

i hate the look of guitars with no headstock eeick. but anyway thats not the point here. that trem system is pretty cool, but i doubt there will be a big demand for it. i have no idea what makes it work, but im pretty sure it cant be as relieable as a OFR after 20 or so years of metal abuse... anyway it certainly is a neat new trick.

Well it is not that new...the TransTrem has been around for as long as the OFR (the old version requires to lock but basically achieves the same result) and as far as reliability...I have a GMT-7T that's 20 years old and that thing never goes out of tune, never breaks a string. The only real complaing about the old design is that when it comes to replacing the ball bearings (once every 10 years) it is indeed a doozie.

Yea, I don't know if I'm crazy about the looks of the new guitar/trem; and i've never played it yet but I can testify as to the strength the quality of Stein parts in the past. I have 5 TT equipped Bergers and a Stein L-2 bass that are over 20 yrs old and still kicking it. As far as the Floyd vs. TT, you can't compare them, it's apples and oranges.

i guess i just assumed the more moving parts / more options the more prone to problems it would be. but if you guys give it the thumbs up...im curious to see one in person now.

Strange seeing a Stieny with body after the trem, looks to much like a Kahler for me, I know thats a bit like the wife buying a car because of the colour, but I've always like the compactness of the OFR.
Sure it play and sound great though
JUST BOUGHT A KRAMER GUITAR AND WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT IT???
THEN.... "Look at www.vintagekramer.com for info, look at www.ebay.com for prices guides, then come back here in 3 months and tell me how great your guitar is"
It seems like an interesting system. I'd like to see 'em making guitars again.

Dunno why guys but I think it looks AMAZING. Like an alien artefact of some sort, pure 21st century. It's nice and elegant and I'm very sure it plays and sounds killer (since I had one of the new Steinbergers, there is a thread about it in "other kool guitars" I think).
I want one, where can I order it today?![]()

Whats the difference between this model TT and the earlyer ones?

The previous TT had to be locked in a transposing pitch - that meant that if you transposed the pitch, you couldn't used the tremolo - because that changed it into a fixed bridge. With the new one that's no longer true, which is awesome - you can switch tuning on a moment notice and still have all the flexibility of a floating bridge. At least that's what it looks like. We will see how good it is upon closer inspection and how much it costs - TT were VERY expensive...

I believe the new unit operates the same way as the old one. The difference being, the old unit transposed up 1 1/2 steps max and down 2 1/2 steps max. The new trem goes up 1 full step up and one full step down in half-step increments. 'Supposedly' the new unit is also top mounted so it can be placed on different guitars from what I heard but don't quote me on it.
There's no availability now. There may never be. I think they debuted it at NAMM to get feedback. It may never happen.. who knows with the heads of Gibiphone in control.![]()

But I think that Ed used the tremolo on all the diferent tunings in the song Summer Nights, or no?

Yeha I just heard it today, I made a killer mp3 cd for the car and tryied it out on the road, and I was amazed that he didn't use the tremolo. I have also the Live Without a Net concert and I allways though that hi use the tremolo on the dif tunings. But I was wrong. My bad...
I really like this new trem then, expecialy if you can put it in another body.

I hope to own a transtrem equipped guitar some day.
What's the price point?
I really like the look and would consider owning one if it is within reach. I bet you could create some really original sounding music with that trem.
Later,
Rod
Do you own a low E serial nanner Baretta? PM me
I NEED RIPLEY PARTS
I REALLY don't like the look of it, if I had a Steinberger it HAS to be a GL (the ones like Ed played with the square body). But the body probably needs to be bigger for this new trem to fit.

I wonder if they'll still produce S trem guitars. I have an unused Trans Trem 2 that I wanna use some day.

I'll keep this vid open a couple days then take it down. (too embarassing) but maybe you can get an idea of what the trem does.
