I've used a few different brands of chorus pedals and have always prefered Boss effects in stomp boxes, but.....I get a much better sound from my Alesis processor. I forget the model, but I think it is a rackmount Midiverb 4....but I wouldn't swear to it. I don't think I've even seen it in 2+ years. Anyway, you can find them used for around the price of a new Boss pedal (if you shop around).....If you are interested in knowing the model, I can dig it out and look it up. I think I paid around $75 for mine, used....I also have the Alesis 3630 compressor.

+1 for the Alesis. I run an old Quadraverb GT and the effects are to die for. Very natural and transparent. Your amp will still sound like your amp.

Probably not what you wanted to here if you're looking for a pedal though.

My two favorites are the old DOD Stereo Flanger(FX-75B I think) adjusted for a chorus sound and a cheap Alesis Nanoverb. Takes up 1/3 of a rack space and you can find them cheap ($60 bucks or so)

I've used a few, but my favorite for years has been the Fulltone ChoralFlange unit. Bit pricey, but very adaptable and hand made in the US

I used to have the DOD in my 80's days, it worked great for me. I would also list the BYOC Chorus, but the site says it is temp. discontinued...I built two boxes from BYOC and they are easy to assemble and sound kickass!!! Plus you can say you built it yourself (and put on a funky paint)

The big blue one by Line 6 is spectacular. I do not like Pink Floyf, but I got some of those great chrous tones out of my friends Line 6 chorus pedal. I should have never sold it to him

Boss CE-5 Chorus Ensemble. Heck, the CH-1 Super Chorus is great too. In the mid/late eighties Boss had a pedal called the Dimension C. That was a cool pedal. It had some nifty presets that were a mix of chorus and tremolo. Sure wish I still had mine.

+1 on the DOD effects. I think I have that same one, though I don't like the fact that it doesn't have a sum output. I've always had to run it back into a little teeny mixer to send the signal to the amp. Now I just use an old DOD stomp box chorus. It's quiet enough (for a stomp box) and gives enough effect without making all the people in the front row queasy.

My fave chorus box is the Analogman Clone-Clone (I have a really early version of this one #71 I believe, and it sounds really warm and 'analogly' fantaststic). Im sure the current versions are just as good, if not better, as they are true by-pass and some have stereo options.

I also have been a huge fan of the old Boss CE-2. It's like a cross between digital and analog. Really crytal sweet and smooth. I still have one and probably always will.

I use kind of an A/B rig.

The Analogman Clone-clone is the boring looking one second from the left on the upper level. (One rate knob, 1 depth swtch, that's it. It really has a great natural sound. I use it through an old slverface Fender Twin for clean.)

The bottom level effects go into an '82 Marshall JCM800 head for crunch).

I use Boss pedals (Except for my Ibanez Tube Screamer) and I like the Boss CH-1 chorus. I use one amp when playing out and while it gives me a nice chorus effect it doesn't overtake my natural sound. Best way to use and hear them is with a two amp set-up IMO.

I had one of those Dimension C Boss Chorus pedals - cool presets but it was really noisy.

You guys are gonna think I'm crazy, but the Danelectro Cool Cat chorus has some really great chorus sounds. Cheap pedal, too.

Electro Harmonix Small Clone is the only chorus pedal i've ever used, and everything else i've tried out just doesnt sound as good to me, and it matches up perfectly with my DS-2.

yeah, but with the small clone you can make adjustments to the pedal with your toe instead of having to reach down and tweak it, when you're in a live on stage or live recording situation that kind of stuff really helps.

So the Boss is no good because you can't adjust with ones toe? What if you already adjusted it to what you like?

Here is a clip of a few of the pedals I recentky did for a client. The first is a CS3 compresser. Then a DD3. I did a simple mod to make it delay like an analog delay. It fades instead of just repeating like the original does. The last is a CE2 chorus. You can hear the improvement over stock IMHO..

    The order is

clean amp-orig comp--clean amp-modded comp--clean amp-orig dd3- clean amp- modded dd3 -- Clean amp- orig chorus with a touch of delay-- clean amp- Modded chorus with delay.
