...It's about time for Bruce to pop out with his LP Floyd!
lots of guys talk about wanting a les paul with a floyd...here's a '73 custom, someone added a kahler in the 80s..though it devalued the guitar by about half,,its pretty damn cool.

There is nothing wrong with an LP with a Kahler trem.

I ran out of room in my picture folder on the forum so
I had to dig up my old photobucket account.

You should now have about 5x the space. Oh yeah, sweet axe! I love how low you can set the action with Kahlers.

Wow Tommy!! I love Bruce's Floyd LP, and I've never been a fan of Kahlers but that silverbrst is AWESOME!!
JUST BOUGHT A KRAMER GUITAR AND WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT IT???
THEN.... "Look at www.vintagekramer.com for info, look at www.ebay.com for prices guides, then come back here in 3 months and tell me how great your guitar is"
What? A les Paul with its tune-O-matic bridge removed is a sin.Like defacing a place of worship! A trem on a Paul is good like a steak is dowsed in blue bananas, its not to be, said the purist..Originally Posted by TommysGs

I hate it when you get all excited searching the bay or the classifieds, and a vintage strat or LP worth 30 grand is up for sale for just 3 grand and as you start to smile because you just struck gold, you realize its been de valued by some renaissance man who heard EVH and ran out to the garage with daddy's guitar and chisel in hand routing it for a humbucker and or a Floyd. Then after all that, few can pull off EVH licks anyway.
I do however think the Kramer LP needs a Floyd desperately. I think it would sell much better to this demographic right here that wants this setup, plus to me Kramer= Floyd Rose!![]()

I'm torn on this subject , I love the classy lines of a LP particularly with a nice quilt or flame cap but I'm an out & out floyd man. Bottom line I'd take either given the chance![]()

This LP is a 1984 Silver Burst.
The trem is Factory installed not a modification.
It is attached to the standard posts in the rear
and down over the bridge posts.
I don't know how many of these were sent out
but obviously Gibson's answer to the other FR
guitars on the market at the time.
I ain't hiding from nobody, nobody's hiding from me.
Oh No don't I recognize it as a Factory Guitar unaltered Tommy. I Also would have a few explorers with that same setup. Compared to a bigs trem, they are heaven. and as a bridge they are fine too, I just have never had any luck USING these trems. Its sort of like the Rockinger, They are original, and I wouldn't touch them, but not the best if you had a choice. Secondly, I feel tonal qualities start with great wood, and a bridge that transfers waves to said wood, so If I'm buying a guitar like a Les Paul which has a unique sound all of its own, I try and pick a hard tail. I'm the same way with Floyd's. I try and buy those with the screw type posts above those with the inserts, regardless that they are not as adjustable. I see a trend in vintage Charvels now, where many collectors will pay more for the Orig trem, or hard tail where at one time a Floyd added to its value..Originally Posted by TommysGs
There is no doubt that That burst, would be a proud part of my collection as well, despite any trem, its a stunning looker, and I'm sure its seasoned dry wood makes for a great player.
And my LP Custom is stock from the factory with a Floyd!![]()
The minimal difference in tone is not a considerable trade off to the added benefits the floyd offers.
Besides, I have my purist Standard and Deluxe.
How pure do you want to get because LPF will take you to a 54 GT to be totally pure!![]()

Very True Bruce. Hey I own a Hawk with a Floyd, I'm not sure thats really a les Paul either. And No doubt the Les Paul snobby-ness is never ending until you get to the for-mentioned 54. And Just think how terrible that thing must play.![]()
I own a fat strat also, yet I don't think thats a "stat", and I do Love its Sound and versatility but its still not a strat. See Authentic doesn't mean good. :Happy .

If not I guess this is?
Ok, now ask me which one I would rather play 90% of the time I play strats?

Now with This background the first strat in my collection was The exact HSS you posted. Red and all, I still have it with the plastic still on the pickguard. Then after that a 57 ri that I paid what I felt was an arm and a leg at $400 for.. and boy was I disappointed when it sounded like it did through my Marshalls. Thin twangy, and hollow. Yeah, 10% of my Strat playing is on the SSS for that vintage trem + single trem pup tone that is just un obtainable on any other guitar.

I love Les Pauls, and I love a Floyd Rose trem, but I am horrified to see any stock Paul routered by some dude in his garage. I can accept factory trem Pauls, but anything else is borderline vandalism. Its like adding fiberglass aftermarket ground effects to your Lamborghini. Just my opinion.

I agree, anybody that takes a stock Les Paul and butchers it up with chizles in a garage needs a firm talking to.
A profesional modification is a different story.
LP's are not exactly a dime a dozen but there are thousands of them out there.
However adding a trem to an LP is going to make the value of it plummit.
The purists will always be apauled at any modification.

this one was sent back to gibson in the 80s and done in the factory.Originally Posted by coolhandswrmhrt

I was luck enough to meet my new Charvel at my door when I got home Sat. I was feeling a bit strange on this purchase because I am a die hard Maple neck, strathed,Floyd, Duncan loving George lynch, and Warren D fan...and this new Guitar is a vintage Charvel, but with a hard tail bridge and an rose neck.. Let me tell you of the added tonalities and sustain that I have never been able to appreciate in my other 20yr + old Charvel and kramers.. Its night and day.. SO its not just the quality of the Install, a Floyd Hurts a Les Paul, and In a way that is very noticeable to the common ear. Why not Put a Floyd on something that was meant for a Floyd.? I mean in the cases where a stunning looker like Grey burst there, is for sale, Hey I'm dealing with the Floyd. IF I'm tight on money, and a LP custom with nice inlays and no relief holes is for sale and discounted due to a previous owner adding a Floyd, I'm buying that too. BUT I'm not consciously handing over a Les Paul to be molested by anyone with any mod. Not a Floyd, not a pup. we have something called Warmoth, Stu mac and All parts. to allow us to release the EVH in us all.Originally Posted by TommysGs
Plus I try and learn something every day, and watching one guy get 40k for his at some point, dime a dozen guitar on the bay, right next to the over zealous guy who went all diver down on his exact same strat which then closes at 3k, Is laughable to me.. I don't want to be that guy.
