Default In honor of Hallween - Favorite horror movies?

The Shining came up in another thread...I got to thinking how much I love horror flicks and thought I'd see if there are any other scary movie fans out there.

I would have to list my top ten (in no particular order except the first one!) as:

1 - The Exorcist (I think even the Saturday Night Live spoof gave me nightmares when I was a kid)
    2 - Evil Dead II
3 - Halloween (Michael Myers rules!)
4 - The Omen (my dad took us to see this when it first came out, I was SEVEN, and I had nightmares for a week about the guy getting his head cut off)
5 - In The Mouth Of Madness
6 - Night Of The Demons
7 - Night Of The Living Dead (I snuck down to watch this in the middle of the night when I was six...scared the crap out of me)
    8 - The Sentinel (1977)
    9 - Amityville Horror
    10 - Friday The Thirteenth

There's plenty of others, too. My wife and I used to try to find different horror movies to rent almost every weekend back when we were first together.

    Any opinions?

+1 on the freak-turn that we have experienced in the new millenium.

I am one of the few who don't get the whole horror movie genre but I liked "The Great Pumpkin" by Charles Shultz...

The Shinning, the 1st Halloween and Friday the 13th for sure. House on Haunted Hill was cool with the insane hospital setting. Advent Horizon scared the crap out of me the first time. and even though it wasn't that great of a movie, Ghost ship (uncut) when the wire goes through all the passengers was an all time moment.

Trick or Treat. Hands down my favorite. It just doesn't get any cooler. Music by Fastway (there best stuff EVER, get the soundtrack now.) and appearances by Ozzy and Gene Simmons.
I also got into the Nightmare on Elm St. series. And Return of the Living Dead I & II were pretty funny too.

    Dawn of the Dead.
    Day of the Dead.
    Land of the Dead.

I think there is a re-occuring theme there!

    Way to many to list.
I really like a good spook movie but I don't care for the serial killer type stuff.
Something about evil scares the crap out of me.

The first Ring movie was pretty creepy. I like movies that give you a chill versus in you face scare the shit out of you for a second type flicks.

Th Shining is an all time favorite of mine. I also really dug the original Nightmare on Elm Street. Who doesn't like to see Johnny Depp get offed?
I've been working steady for the past twelve years, minus the last three.

"The Screaming Skull" scared the crap out of me as a kid. Also the original "House on Haunted Hill". John Carpenter's "The Thing" Is a fairly spooky movie even by today's standards. The first Alien is a trip too.

I'll give you Little Nicky, RSB - at least we got away from the anti-Republican posts that started off the replies! In the interest of following the rules and staying away from politics I'll keep my mouth shut. After all, all the Democrats will tell you that George W. is the Devil and that he is the reason why the whole world is so screwed up! Oh shit, I couldn't let well enough alone!

On the non-partisan side, I am EXTREMELY fond of all the ...of the (Living) Dead movies, myself:

    Night
    Dawn (old and new)
    Day
    Land
    and, of course, SEAN!

Let's also not forget "I Spit On Your Grave" - if you haven't seen it, find it!

Is that out on DVD yet? My daughter targeted that one and I forgot about it. Looks like one of those cartoons that will work on multi-level humor (the stuff that mom and dad get the kids won't)
