Nice work Mike. I have been thinking of taking on one of those. Looks like a fun multi step project that will give you allot of satisfaction to complete.

Very nice job Mike :thumbsup . I'm currently refinishing a nana Focus 1000. Can I ask what grade you took the wood down to before you started painting :scratchhe . I know most bodies are shipped at 220 (I think Warren does this), is that good enough as a starting place?
Nice job again. :notworthy

Thanks guys!
Bruce, I'm 24/7 dude, mainly because the kids have me trained to squeeze every single ounce of free time I can find into all my little projects, since they suck up every other second out of the day when they are awake! :) LOL
Yup, Remy, you are right, thats why I was up late... he he
As far as sanding goes, I just scuffed and shot it. I used 320 on a vibrating sander and hand sanded the rest just enough to make the paint stick. The rest is just good ole' Krylon and their crystal clear over it. I hate their clear though, it shrinks horribly bad, but since this one is going "flat" anyway, its no biggie.
Thanks guys!

Sweeeeeeeeeeeet one Mikey! Looks perfect!
Looks great Mike!
I'm just curious though ... why Krylon? :scratchhe
I've had a Krylon painted body curing since November '05. I just finished buffing it out and reassembling the guitar last night, and even though the paint has been curing for the past 6 MONTHS, it's still not FULLY cured and is very suseptable to damage and impressions left from anything it may come into contact with.
Yes, Krylon provides for easy cleanup (just throw away the can!) and yes, it's very inexpensive, but man! .... if you have the resources to use the good stuff, why even bother with Krylon?

Is that a Wolfgang Special Korean? Nice paint job dude! And please do comment about the use of Krylon and how long it takes to cure.
You know, It looks so good I can almost see EVH grinnin behind it, and the smell of cigs.

Rod, its a USA Wolfgang Special, not a Korean. Swing by the house before next week, before I mail it off, if you want to see it.

Rippin Rod,
I know I brought up the issues with Krylon, but it probably wasn't appropriate to address here in this thread.
Mike, I apologize. :embarasse
That's a killer paintjob.

Noticed I forgot to answer your original answer on the Krylon, Dino.
Since it was a fast one for a friend, I went with rattle cans because he wanted it "Ed Style" with that flat appearance, not glossy. Plus, its hard to drag all the paint junk out with my kids and wife needing room in the garage!
Thanks dood.

I wonder how you make it so level. Like no big noticable differences in thickness of each color.
Very nice job.

You just clear alot between coats. Its not 100% level, in order to achieve that I'd have to keep going with clear, which is not what my friend wanted, he wanted it Ed style, but non-relic'ed.
Thanks man!

Well, you may want to check out paint your own guitar site www.paintyourownguitar.com - that guy does exactly that, painting with Krylons and giving a lot of shine...
Maybe you put too much paint!?

Yea, its great using Krylon if you want to wait 6 weeks, and watch that shit shrink over a 3-5 year period. I only used Krylon on this one because I wasn't going with gloss.
Beware of rattle cans. They may look great now, but their clears are horrid compared to urethanes.
