You picked up a "Focus" 2000, not an "F" 2000. They are different guitars. But people often use "F" to shorten Focus. So it's easy to get it confused...

I've never seen an F-2000 without the recess.

The F-2000 seems like it was somewhat rare compared to the other F-series. You dont see them nearly as often...
