Okay, here's the deal...http://www.myemoticons.com/images/communicate/signs/i/i-surrender.gifI don't plan on finding a set of originals (and won't be bent over :money for them)http://serve.mysmiley.net/adult/hump.gif (http://www.celebrityfashionarchive.com) :D so I'm going to have some made...:idea

Anything I should know before embarking on this "custom" request? :scratchhe I was hoping some of you lumie-gods could weigh in and provide either some high-resolution photos and/or dimensions, etc. :toast

I'll likely have a few sets made for my "rainy day" drawer so let me know if you'd like a set as well. :thumbsup

I've searched the net thoroughly and haven't found anyone who makes these specific replacement rings - if anyone has an idea, please help a brother out! :notworthy

I'm going to go ahead and try to make a few of those rings out of cherry, or something I have laying around the shop, just to see if I can do it well enough. If I think they're decent enough, I'll make you a pair. Only issue is that I won't be able to clear coat them (were they originally clear coated?)

Mine cracked in two just sitting in it's case a while ago.I'm not going to worry about replacing it because it doesn't effect playability, sound or bother me.I think it's a poor application for solid wood,if you look at the direction of the grain at the screw holes it creates a very weak spot that'll crack if you just stare at it too hard!! (possible exaggeration)
If I was going to have some made,I'd investigate either using another material, laminating the wood at right angles,or try and find some kind of thin but strong backing material that wouldn't show enough to be objectionable.

I know one thing...David will lose sleep for years until he finds these things...but like everything else, he'll find a set for sale on some remote island in the pacific.... :)

Tim,

Now you know I've already found them...but will not grab my ankles for them! :lol

:D

I was referring to you finding them at a steal. If you did buy the ones you are talking about, you'd have to file a police report and go to victim counseling.

Did you ever get any made? I've got exactly the same problem, and I'd love to know if someone has made some or is willing to.

Not sure if it'd work but might be worth a try... this local company to me in town does hydrographics... I think it's been discussed here before. Maybe they'd do a small batch of plastic or metal pickup rings with maybe this pattern on it?

Might get you close. I don't think the process is too expensive.

No :nono...in some respects, I gave up as the search was more than frustrating. :banghead

I contacted a few ring-makers and they didn't seem interested in taking my :money so f:censoredk em'! :D

Just something outside the box that may get you the asthetic if the search for originals or makers who don't want to ram rod you becomes futile.

Hi there,
What I would suggest, find a guitar builder in your area and ask him if he would make these walnut pickup rings for you

Thanks. Good suggestion. I'll give that a go if I can't find anything in wood. There's someone round here who might be able to make some, but I thought I'd ask in case anyone had already done it. If he does it, does a decent job and isn't too pricey, I'll post back here with the results.

You can also try these guys, they do custom orders:

http://www.pickuprings.com/

The rings will cost 50 bucks or so for the pair, not inexpensive but likely worth it. :thumbsup
