New Stack Day :)
It's more than I need... But you only live once :D (plus they were a bargain ;))

(don't laugh at the custom rack stand :D)
Opinions needed... Leave the grilles blue, or paint them flat black :scratchhe
Seller is a cool guy... My age, bought the stack new back in the day (along with the Mp1 I want) :thumbsup He still has a 86 Pacer as well ;) If it's as mint as the cabs were... I'm may need to try and talk him out of it :)

:D:D Now that is a good idea :thumbsup
Maybe that is what I need... A poll on what to use to hold the rack :) The rack is to big to set on top of the speaker cabs (to deep) :-x Got to be some better way :)
The cabs sound great... 50 watt Celestions... Really similar in sound to a Marshall 4x12 with 75 watt Celestions :thumbsup

Thanks guys :thumbsup
The Blue is kind of growing on me. I think I'll leave it be :thumbsup
Sandy,
That's the GR 33 guitar synth :)
The desk is pretty well hosed :D
Rick,
the room is a spare bedroom, so it's not real large. I haven't pushed the poweramp past 5, so it's not to bad :)
Now I'm going the rounds on placing them next to each other, or leaving them apart :scratchhe The Stereo spread as they sit now is really pretty good basically with the delay set to pan. But I don't use that very often...

Just try every permutation of stacking, unstacking, and so on. It'll be fun, and you'll find the best configuration in the best way -- by doing it. As far as setting up the rack, Office Depot has a heavy duty folding table that might work. You could probably get some of that Krylon that's designed for plastic parts and put a very cool paint job on it. http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/396392/Iceberg-IndestrucTable-TOO-1200-Series-Adjustable/?cm_mmc=Mercent-_-Shopzilla-_-Tables-_-396392&mr:referralID=12f4b44d-82f7-11de-989b-000423bb4e79

Thanks for the link on the table :thumbsup that looks like something like that would do the trick...
Moved together... (shameless pic of the GKG ;) still playing great)

Seemed to have gained a little more bottom end :scratchhe
Stereo separation is still not bad but not like when they are 5 feet apart, but I expected that ;)
I'll give it a few days to see how it works out :thumbsup

The blue definitely rocks. Here's a thought: Put the cabinets back to back, away from the wall, and then you can put the rack on top. Might work, and might sound awesome. Then again it might sound like shit :lol , but it's worth a shot.

Did a little peak inside the cabs (wanted to make sure the original speakers were still there :))
Yup... Originals are still there, Celestion G12 50's :thumbsup

I'm thinking about picking up a bigger rack that has casters, and doesn't need anything to sit on :) (good times to move) I'll have more additions to ad to the rack here in the future so the extra space would be welcomed :thumbsup

I don't usually like to butt in, but huh?? :alien Nobody needs your rig from the "Straight Out of Lynnwood" tour, and if they did chances are that wall of Marshall stacks you see in the arena is actually at the most two heads and four cabs powered. At the most. For an arena. Unless it's a bunch of kids in a HC band that don't wan't to pay a sound guy, 9/10 your cab is mic'ed- you could use a 112 combo (as alot of people with GREAT sound do) and be plenty loud. This is a stab in the dark, but I'm guessing you work/worked at a big box store that rhymes with Siotar Placenter.
Now that my rant is over, NICE setup! If my vote counts, I also like the blue!:drool

Are the blue grills original? If so, those are really friggin' cool! I remember lusting over these cabs (but all black) when I was in high school. :) But in any case, I think you should definitely leave them.
My first decent piece of gear was an ADA MP-1 (even had the Quadroverb too) but it didn't last long as I got more into cranking a normal amp as opposed to carting around a rack of stuff, still, ADA is a company that I've always been super bummed went away. They made so much great stuff.

JB, no the grilles were originally black, the previous owner painted them blue :)
It's kind of ironic, I've went full circle basically back to what I had in the 80's. After going through a few different amps/pedals and what not, I'm back were it began for me :D

you think i dont know about dummy cabs?
you're right, house sound is usually what you'd use, but what if you're playing a house party or a small venue that doesnt have a house sound?
that's where a full stack is the shiz
in any situation with house sound you'd be fine with a half stack
and in any recording situation your best bet would be 2x12 or 1x12 setups
and yes, i did used to work at guitar center

I'm not ragging on anyone but I gig quite a bit and have never needed a full stack for any gig. Sure it looks cool but my single 12 combo or if I feel like it I pull out my 50w half stack. I just can't figure out where some guys are using these 100w full stack Marshall's? :scratchhe :scratchhe
If you guys are playing out and can use full stacks I want to move to your town and play those gigs.!!
Sorry to hijack, back to the thread.
I like the blue grilles, something different is always OK with me.

well, first off, i'm surprised no one mentioned the hardcore heavy metal lamp on top!!! that thing rocks!!!
second, that looks like a great setup - congrats!!
third, this thing with lostinmasses got twisted. pacer guy said "its more than i need" lostinmasses said " it dont look like too much to me" i think others are taking that as he dont think much of the rig, i take it as him saying its not excessive.

EXACTLY
seriously though, i have 14 guitars, many of us here have more, i consider 14 to be a fair amount but a small collection, but since i'm a lefty it's not exactly easy to build up an arsenal of top-notch axes
as far as amps go, if i was in a studio i'd be using a 2x12 cab for 90% of the recordings
if i was in a venue with a house sound i'd be using a half stack
if i was at a house party or a bar with no house sound i'd be using a full stack
my full stack pushes 300w RMS and 600w max, so 150w rms is what i'm running with a half stack, that's plenty of power
Pacer Guy
08-13-2009, 03:03 PM
I picked up the full stack because the price was right (400 bucks). I only wanted two cabs to begin with :thumbsup But the 80's side of me talked me into all 4 cabs :D and the owner didn't really want to split them up (he bought them new) and really I can't blame him... Kinda like when an old Kramer gets parted out :)
For playing out, I would only use two, and that's more for looks than anything. I get a pretty good tone with the volume about half way up which is more than loud enough for the small hole in the wall bars around me :thumbsup
:D My heavy metal lamp rocks :headbang It's a touch lamp at that. You get the volume up loud enough and it turns off and on by itself :D
I agree with Stunt Doubles analogy of what was said :thumbsup That was how I took it anyway :)

I swear, I was around in the 80's when these were the big thing and I don't remember ever seeing blue grills. That is toooooo cool, bro.
I bet the stereo spread with that MP1 is huge with the cabs apart.
Again, congrats! That is way cool:thumbsup

Craig, the stereo spread is pretty cool when the cabs are spread apart, even though it looks kind of weird ;) But with the chorus or a delay on a ping pong setting it's pretty crazy :)
The blue grilles are growing on me... The guy I bought them from said one of his friends told him to paint them blue :) So he thought why not :D
Korodesu, I feel pretty lucky to have picked these up for what I did. I'm sure the seller could have gotten more for them. From what I have seen in looking around 150 to 200 a cab or more seems like what they are going for.
Thanks guys :thumbsup

Where is Lynnwood? And on that note, I am of the belief that is always better to have more power at your disposal, than less power than you need. I've used my 5150 as a practice amp, rehersal amp, club amp, and in a pretty big theater (5000 people), it will cover all the bases and has never left me feeling like I needed something more.
