Hiya everyone , just thought i'd take a moment to say hello , and show you my StageMaster Deluxe 2 that i've owned from new , way back in 1988.

Its a lovely guitar , and its made a little more exciting because of its dotted fingerboard , which i believe is unusual for stagey's.

Anyway , hope you like the pics.

I can't figure it out, but there is something about this guitar that I really like. It is probably the unusual bound neck with the dots. Didn't Oz Fox from Styper play this exact looking guitar? I have seen pictures somewhere of him and a black flat-top stagey. His may have had diamond inlays.

There is a picture of him in the book American HAir Metal with him holding a Stagey like you described.
Never seen one wih dot inlays though

That's it! I just ordered the book a few weeks ago and I knew I had seen it somewhere recently.

Really strange to see one with dots, but I really like it, simplifies the look and if I'm honest I think it suits the black better than the claw inlays.

Welcome aboard :thumbsup

Beautiful guitar! :thumbsup Kramer was infamous for kicking out oddballs every once in a while. You definitely have yourself a unique axe! Welcome to the forum; that's a huge splash. :toast

Black with black hardware.... gotta love it!

What made you buy it all those years ago? And dare I ask how much it cost back in '88? I've only ever seen original list prices in US$.

Got any more hiding under the bed?!

Cheers,

Ben.

If i remember rightly i paid £799 for it back in 1988 , i remember seeing a 'reduced from £999' tag hanging off it , which is probably why i ended up buying it, we girls cant resist a sale and im still the same with shoes to this day.
The fact that i ended up buying this exact guitar was a total fluke , i had no idea about dot / claw / diamond inlays , it just looked like the one in the nice glossy Stagemaster catalogue i'd got.
To be honest , the shop where i bought it wasn't the kind of place i'd normally go into to look at guitars , it was a very large but very formal kind of place , full of oboes , violins , tympani drums , with a couple of Gibsons , Fenders , and Kramers on the back wall in a display area. I did think that maybe the reason it ended up at this kind of place rather than a large guitar superstore was because large guitar stores may order 5 x stagemasters in a single shipment and if one of them looked different to the others then it could become difficult to sell , where as if its displayed and sold as a single guitar on its own then people are less likley to notice. (although thats only a thought i had about it).

Hi Nicola, reduced or otherwise 800 quid was a fair chunk of cash for a guitar back in 1988. You must have been pretty serious about it.

The average exchange rate through 1988 for GBP to USD was 1.78, so you paid the equivalent of just over $1400 - pretty close the the Kramer list price.

Had you paid full price it wouldn't have been far shy of $1800, which I guess is about right given the list price, on top of which would have been VAT and import duty.

So, it looks as though your nose for a deal was already up and running all those years ago. Mind you, I'd rather have that guitar taking up space under the bed instead of shoes!

My 2 abiding memories of 1988 are seeing Ted Nugent at Hammersmith Odeon, and starting university. Ah, happy days......

Ben.

Welcome to the Forum!

Fantastic guitar. Never seen that before. I bet you've got all the Bro's drooling now.:drool

I love the way Kramer put a single dot on the 24th fret. Normally I hate the 24th fret double dot and would prefer a signature block or omit it altogether. To me, the single dot doesn't draw too much attention to that area. It gives balance to the overall look.

Nice guitar...and welcome to the Forum.

Maybe some of you bro's can remember - wasn't there a YELLOW sort-of-oddball Stagey on eBay a few months back? I believe that had dot inlays, horn scoop, and the "volute" where the neck meets the headstock. And that one was also in the UK. Maybe these features were something special for that market?

Lovely stagey - beautiful condition - just thinking you have had your stagey about the same legth of time I have had my Liberty86 which I bought in Glasgow probably in 1989. I think I paid £1000 for the Liberty but when you work it out that currently stands me at just £50 a year - no price at all for the joy it has brought me.
