Anyone have one of the XK series? I have one on the way but the cavity cover looks busted up, maybe an extra screw or two as well. It almost looks like mirrored plastic in the pictures but I can't remember what they were made of. Where can I find a replacement?

You could get some pickguard material and make your own.
:) I have some extra if you want me to bring it to Nashville.

Thanks Jeff, that'd be cool. Now I'm starting to think that something more interesting than black or mirror wouldn't look nice. Maybe a little brass or pearloid plastic? :brow

My XKG-10 is missing the cover in it's entirety. That is a great idea. You landed this one of the bay, right? I remember seeing this guitar somewhere.

Yeah, through in a best offer and didn't think I'd get it. Also has split tuner carck but that's nothing major.

Steve- What is it a hairline crack in the tuner itself?

I haven't seen it yet but I think it's the fairly common full detachment of one side of the split string bobbin, or whatever the hell it's called :D
On the sealed tuner like Schallers, I think the only thing to do is replace the tuner.

Interesting. I'll have to ask around to see if there was a problem with the front load electronic. You know, the kind of problem like the plate cracking from all the stress of a cable hanging off of it :D :bong

What were the control plates originally made of? I have an XKB-10 body/neck on the way.

They were made of the 3-ply black/white sandwich plastic. I ended up making one for mine out of pearloid pickguard material. Came out nice.

It looked great but I haven't had a chance to mess with it yet. Won't have the bass until Wed.

Thanks to KramerBassFan's help, I was able to make a new control plate for my XKB-10. All that's left is a nut and tuners. Can't access the Klassifieds yet so I don't know if anyone there has them available.

Looks great!
And there aren't any of either in the Klassifieds right now... you could send member skydive69 a message, he might have what you need. :toast

Thanks, KBF. I just finished cutting and shaping the oval neckplate from aluminum. Looks like I'll need to hit ebay for the tuners. $80+!!

Actually, i just took a look at mine.... and they look exactly like Gotoh tuners... i can't guarantee they would fit yours, but do you have any Gotoh tuners you could try?
Mine have the little set screw in the middle of it, if that makes sense.

The Gotohs require a 9/16" hole while the headstock has 1/2" holes. I can get a set of gold Schallers branded Hamer pretty cheap.

My bass needs a set with the set screw over to the side, not on the bottom like those in the bottom pic.
This is what I need:

And nobody makes schaller copies... there are billions of those gotoh copies (with screw in the middle) but i can't find any aftermarkets like the Schaller tuners...

Thanks for checking on that. I may pick up a set of the gold Hamers to hold me till I can find an affordable set of Schallers.
