I've been offered this Gibson U2 for £400 ($800). I know the floyds been ousted in favour of a wilko trem, but can anyone see anything else wrong with it? I thought all U2 models were flat top and bound. This one seems to have no binding.

Can anyone shed any light on this model? It's in REALLY good condition with the exception of the floyd disappearing.

This is the only info I can find at the moment.

U-2 - offset double cutaway basswood body, maple neck, rosewood fingerboard, Kahler vibrato, 6 on one side tuners,
black hardware, 2 single coil/humbucker pickups. Mfd. 1987 to 1994.

US-1 - offset double cutaway basswood body, bound maple top/back, balsa wood core, ebony fingerboard, 6 on one
side tuners, 1 humbucker/2 stacked coil humbuckers. Available in Natural top finish. Mfd. 1987 to 1994.

:thumbsup

Thanks for that. Something tells me the pivot posts have been moved as the floyd pivots and wilkinson pivots are quite a different spacing. I knew it was too good to be true.

Thanks,

Paul

I played one back then which resembles yours exactly bare the trem, which was something not-floyd I can't exactly remember. But yeah, no binding there either. Exactly the same colour and layout.

Pivots are easy to move again, doesn't cost much to do that. That neck was certainly the sweetest I ever played.

These didn't come with a Floyd rose bridge.
Some kind of a copy and they don't have a locking nut either.

I meant floyd style. Thanks for the info anyway.

For that much $$$ I think you can get a better guitar no?

I've never seen one of those, pretty sweet looking though. Love the HS. From looking around, $800 seems a little bit steep though.

It is a bit above the average... for the US. But this is the UK and the prices are just that bit higher. As an example, a stock mid 80's baretta in reasonable condition is about £300 ($600), and that's private sale prices. Shop prices are usually higher.

I also found an unused NOS Gibson US-1 with HSC in the states for $1200. Brand new. Never left the shop. Mind you, that IS a bit overpriced (but still WAY below a new Gibson of any worth).

Dudes, those axes eat our regular Superstrats for breakfast. Blazingly fast necks which play themselves and a truly great sound. Set-neck with full access to higher frets, top-notch quality. Just from that POV I'll rather pay $1000 for an axe like that in good condition than a new asian Soloist or Ibanez whatnot.

That guitar is a rip...I've talked to the guy and it might be worth 600 bucks. He hasn't dropped it big but its floated between 900 and 750 can. My buddy says hes played one and its not worth the money. Pretty much a good 500 dollar kramer is a better guitar.

PS didn't know theirs another guy from Vancouver on here

"Pretty much a good 500 dollar kramer is a better guitar."

Sorry but your friend is either severely biased or has no clue about guitars. The U2 blows every Kramer out of the water bare some high-end Stageys and the Liberty.

Epi. was the S310, mega cheap catalogue model based on the U-2.
I know I had one, but they had a scratchplate :scratchhe

The Epis were crap, but also not named U-2 ;)

I know thats why I said it was the S310 Sergej ;)

But can't remember a model without a 'plate.

reason for mentioning it is was the post about the U-2 being crap, I was wondering if he had played an Epi. and NOT a Gibson......

If I ever come across a U2 in person, I'll sell a kidney to get it.

Any of you guys need a slightly used/pickled kidney?

There is one of those, I think, down at the pawn. Now that I think about it it may be one of those rare madels Wayne worked on:thumbsup

I dunno guys I'd rather have my Kramer Sustainer that I got for 550 rather than a Gibson U2...but its a good guitar both ways

Just bought an '89 in Vancouver BC, not the green one though... this one's black, and it wails!
My very nice autographed Kramer AeroStar ZX30 is over on the Overseas forum. "Is this thing worth $400?" is the thread title.

So how does it play/sound? Good condition?

The layout is basically Pacer Custom I with a blower switch, love that.

This thing WAILS! It's got the assorted nicks and chips visible in the photos, plus a few more scratches, etc... but what a player!
I'm not really a lead guitarist, but this thing is inspiring me to be one. It's an awesome lead axe.
I've done some setup and replaced the strings since I got it. The B and high E were buzzing a bit on the low frets so I did a truss rod adjustment and raised the bridge a tad. Now it's AWESOME!

"file down the nut, take the buzz out the low E"?

My question to you: If she has never seen the guitar before, how does she already know it has fret buzz and other problems?

It's a Fender! :D

nice guitar! but please, don't try to pimp a $50 guitar for $400, you'll only make a fool of yourself
