Almost finished, just need to get funds together to pay Mitchel for the Gotoh Floyd he's been holding for me for 5 months. :)

I decided this time to use MOP type tuning keys to make it look more like the real thing.

I dunno, this is a convert, I didn't want the recessed trem. :)

That Floyd is just lying there in place, thats not the one that'll go on there (want a gotoh like a Axis)

(thanks guys!)

Nice one Mike. How did you paint it? Rattle can or spray gun? Also, the finish looks real good. Did you do it by hand or with a machine?

Looks nice! I have been wanting to do one of those. But I can't paint, hell I can't even write my name so you can read it! LOL The girl I want to paint it (does killer flames on cars) has no idea how to paint wood. She keeps telling me she has to wet sand it over and over.

I like the EVH sig on the headstock

Done with 100% automotive paints, shot with a compressor, gravity gun, etc. Color coats are Spies Hecker clear is a cheaper alternative to PPG I found called Advantage clear (shoots better in a garage environment anyway, faster cure times).

Prep from raw wood is not easy, but usually you'll want to shoot autoprimer to seal the wood and wet sand until its smooth (the primer). I've even shot excess clear leftover from other jobs on raw wood bodies to seal them, but thats not good in practice because clear can shrink, you have to wait around 2 weeks to assume all the grain is sealed. Then start with your base coats, and shoot clear. Then you do the wet sand between clear coats.

Its not hard, just time consuming.

Thanks again for the nice comments!

You really should do that as a business. You would have people lined waiting to get you to work on their stuff:thumbsup

I love doing it, if it weren't for my kids, I probably would but there's just not enough time to do it for others, except for the occassional favor for a friend.

Well, technically, Ed can't shut anyone down for doing it, he can only send cease and desist orders and outlawyer you. ;)

You can sell your personal guitars all day long with stripe jobs and its just as legal as selling copies of Van Halen III (which should be illegal)

Mike, that looks great. :thumbsup I'd be damn happy if I could do a job that nice. You've got me wanting to dig out my old compressor and guns, but I don't even have a decent place to work right now.

Thats the new Floyd Rose Patent I'm filing, the posts are called phantom screws, they are there, just invisible. Gets better sustain with this new system.

Waiting on the Gotoh Floyd and the posts to get in from Mitchel, can't wait!
