Hey guys are any of you familiar with the
Seymour Duncan TB-4 JB pickup???
I see that they are available in a reverse zebra and I am wondering if this would be a good P/U for a original baretta tone???
Thanks!!

Bill,
If its for "that guitar"........... try a pickup with an A2 magnet in it......it will get a very sweet sound for you. If you have a tube amp or tube preamp then try something in the 8-9K output with A2 magnet.... I think you'll like it.
The pup that was in it before you got it had a Custom Custom coil, and a 59' coil, with the Custom Custom A2 magnet........... and it was about 11K output.
I'm almost tempted to just send you one to try out in it.
Oh yeah....... a TB spaced HB will not work that great in the Baretta..... the angled HB is to put the strings directly over a pole piece on one of the coils. The EAD are over the closest to the Bridge coil screws and the GBE are over the other coil slugs. ... so stick with a SH type Duncan HB whatever you do.

Exactly what 'Bug said! :thumbsup Trembuckers are designed to align the pole pieces with the strings in anyu guitar that has the pickup mounted in the standard position (perpendicular to the strings). I have the TB-4 in my Jackson and it is a sweet pickup. I am going to drop a TB-4 zabra in my Impy project axe for sure! :toast

TB-4 and SH-4 are the same pickup besides the pole-piece spacing. Of course you can use it in your Baretta. The pickup being angeled anyway, it really doesn't matter which version you take.

Perhaps not, but the intention of the angled placement was to correctly align the pole pieces with the strings. The Trembucker won't do this. Still, it probably doesn't matter, but why pay the money to do something less than optimal?

ewww..JB...lol
it will be the same thing that came in the Baretta's originally (after the Schallers).
I dont think that the type (trem bucker vs. non) will make a difference (in this case)

I stuck a TB-4 in one of my PC I's and it sounds great. I do eventually plan to switch it out with a SH-4 for the sake of putting it back to original.

The JB responds differently in different amps. It's a fairly bright pickup that can have a harsh upper end in some amps. What amp do you use?

Right now,I'm using a POS first edition line 6 spider and after endless hours I have finally found a sound I can live with!
Everything sounds bright in my house I dont have any carpet and old wet plaster walls.
Yes they are real wood floors!:thumbsup
So ive kinda had to learn how to knock it down a bit!
I have a Lynch screamin demon in my 5150 and I got it to sound alright and that one seemed on the bright side to me!
I'm kinda anal about originality so I want to get as close as I can, until I can, if that makes sense!

Well the Screamin Demon has same A5 magnet but about 5K lower output than a JB... so if you think that was bright.......... watch out!
Those damned JB's are too spiky on the highs for my taste.
And I've never cared for Poplar bodies either so you are way beyond my ability to comprehend your tonal desires.....LOL

The Lynch SD is in a focus 1000 body and I would guess it was made of basswood or poplar and I think that added to the brightness of the Pup.
But I just snagged the PUp from Rod:thumbsup
Problem solved!!
thanks guys!!

Perhaps not, but the intention of the angled placement was to correctly align the pole pieces with the strings.
No, the intention was to cover the area under the strings so the outer two E strings don't lose volume. Both have non-properly aligned pole-pieces anyway when slanted.
