That's a sweet hunk-o-wood, boys! :thumbsup Is White Corina light, or heavy? Are there issues with using a single plank instead of two? Advantage? I assume it's okay as long as the wood is completely free of moisture prior to planing? I like the design, wouldn't want any of me bits carved off though!!!
:lol
pel666
10-30-2007, 05:26 AM
The advantage is tone and looks, and obviously I don't need to glue anything :thumbsup
It is already milled at 46 mm's, and white Korina can vary all the way (without losing tone) from light to heavy...this piece is light :headbang
You definately need stable wood, this piece is about 35 years old heheheh

10-30-2007, 08:01 AM
That's going to look and sound awesome :drool I can't wait to see it done.
Mac, are you going to keep it natural or paint it? Its such a nice piece of wood, I'd keep it natural to show off the wood grain.:drool :bananahea
pel666
10-30-2007, 08:03 AM
Yep, it's going to be natural...if Mac doesn't like it he can always get it a paint job :thumbsup
Yeah its gonna be natural, after drooling over mies clawretta at the expo it stays natural! :D

Yep, custom order 'especially for you!' (singing like in the commercial :D )
No kidding, it's a great chunk of wood and it's light! You will know it's Korina once you played it ;) It's been laying around since late 60's to dry, from my regular source since I didn't have a big enough 1 piece for your shape. I am almost out of supplies anyways, I only have a few pieces left of my grand stash (DOH!). I would hate to see my supplier run out, good price and you get to choose the piece. Just drifting here...
More updates probably 2morrow :thumbsup
sounds great, your doing a fantastic job for me here mies :thumbsup
id love to be able to come and pick my own wood for things like a guitar

Made a HB template, and before routing to proper dimensions in one pass I route 'freestyle' first in 3 steps to come to depth (neckHB has one pass, bridgeHB has two). Then attach template with doublesided tape and do the final run :thumbsup
http://www.xs4all.nl/~pelvis/Kramer/Mac/update12.jpg
Both done 3 steps to 20mm's deep
http://www.xs4all.nl/~pelvis/Kramer/Mac/update13.jpg

Drew in the floyd route positions, and copied shapes for routing templates on the floyd (I redo all of my templates, since the new router is so accurate :thumbsup ). I will draw 'em in and do the freehand routing, and then do the templates to finish it off. Just now I drilled the pilot holes for the pots, and speedrilled the back for the elec. cavity to 40mm's. All it needs now is flatten the bottom with a barrelrouter, but will do all that tomorrow :thumbsup
http://www.xs4all.nl/~pelvis/Kramer/Mac/update16.jpg
Oh, and the breakout at the neckscrewholes don't matter, since it will have the high access profile :thumbsup . Just wanted to drill from the top so the alignment on the neck is perfect, and the drill came throught perfect as well...life can be good at times!

mies thats awesome, without meaning to be picky but where the horns cuve back into the neck pocket, do they need smoothing yet as they look a little rough :D i trust your probably laughing thinking yeah ive got to do that yet :thumsbup
pel666
11-23-2007, 08:33 PM
You smart ass :D
Yes, they will become as smooth as the rest...but it's powertool time now :headbang Rest will be handwork! Here's a good impression, with the Lefty neck waiting for the Kline Retta and a OFR (Just finished the first route on the floyd, another template and route to come tomorrow :thumbsup ):

Routed a custom cavity recess template today, and route it about 5 mm deep. I like to make my wooden covers thicker (4 mm) for easier handling and sturdyness :thumbsup
http://www.xs4all.nl/~pelvis/Kramer/Mac/update22.jpg
Came out real perdy!
http://www.xs4all.nl/~pelvis/Kramer/Mac/update23.jpg
The thick plate will add the bonus of soundholes :D
EDIT: Also sanded all sides to grid #240 except the cutaways and final shaping on the neckpocket (then moving to #400 and up)...here's what she looks like now:

My misses likes to put little thingies, plants, china (which I kinda like), immense Catpole (I had never seen one that big really, if you want I can shoot a pic), candles, glass jars well you get the drill, in particulair colour scemes in the house...well, at least that way I can justify having 5 guitars and a Marshall half stack in there as well :thumbsup Yeah, there is little space left if you consider the 5 dogs and 3 cats :D

Had to do some modding, so a few more days delay...it will be a late X-mas gift, but it will be there before 2008 for sure!
The neck is absolutely snug, and alignment is spot on without any adjustment with the el Cheapo Licensed bridge...that always gives me a great feeling :thumbsup It's extremely light, and balances well I can feel that much as a lefty :D
Also fret dressed and polished the neck fretboard and back, cleaned up the nutshelf and installed nut and tuners. The end result is a surprise so NO HEADSTOCK pics :lol

pel666
12-28-2007, 11:29 AM
Thanks guys! Now let's hope Mac likes the playing as well :thumbsup
Normally it goes for a pretty nice price (Custom shape and specs, 1 piece Korina)...and you are unlucky when in the US with the weak dollar! The wood alone is already ~ $170 :-| (white Korina is getting more rare as protected wood/tree, only storm and lightning damage trees are supplying the demand for it now...I noticed Warmoth ran out of stock!)

You guys should be very proud of your collaboration. It is rare that anyone comes up with their own body shape or style that actually looks functional anymore!
I think it very much has a BC Rich Stealth look to it, but less pretty - more aggressive. And I will bet those Wolfgang pickups (having good bass response) will give you low end for days with that body resonating behind it..........
Can I suggest the 3 humbucker model......maybe even with Gibson stop tail and bridge......:thumbsup
I already have an RS, so im used to 3 hums so i wanted a change, cant stand stop tail bridges, i need some form of tremelo
The design is a hybrid of a BC rick mockingbird and a dean razorback :thumbsup
Thanks for you comments

Nice work. :thumbsup
We need to have a sound sample when you get it Mac.
P
been tracking the parcel since mies posted it, the details came online this morning but the only info i have says its in the UK, so i reckon if its come over on a truck over a ferry it came to grimbsy (nearest seaport from NL) which is about 2.5 hours drive away so im expecting it this afternoon. :D
Cant wait!

cmon give us a preview (right now I bet Mac is playing the axe :headbang )
unfortunately it didnt arrive.
so much for express shipping, mies sent it 8 days ago and it left hippolytshoef on saturday, it says 2-4 days from then which leads us to monday-wednesday, taking into account new years and the sunday, today would have been day 4 by record,
aslong as i get it before i go back to uni on sunday night ill be happy :thumbsup
well as its saturday and 13.17
i doubt its coming today either

2-4 day delivery priority air mail my ass!!!
I called them, they said they didn't work till Wednesday after new year. Plain BS, but they just get rid of your support call... 'I am confident it will arrive' the TNT support girl said, and told her I feel much better now that she told me (in cynical tone...). Cross our fingers Mac!
It's been 9 days now sitting somewhere at a depot probably :-|
as of wednesday ! that could explain a few things :D
looks like im only going back to uni on monday then :D
does saturday count as a delivery day?
its probably sat in Hull (nearest port on the east coast to the netherlands)
It WILL arrive :thumbsup

Saturday counts as delivery indeed!
Darn, I know how it feels to wait on something like this...it will probably be there Monday or Tuesday. Does that mean you would have to wait till you get back? What is that Uni you talk about? University?
Mies
yeah university mies, i only have my first exam on tuesday so dont really need to go back till monday night. If saturday counts as a delivery day it should be here by monday at the latest
2-4 days after wednesday

Wow, this is my first post here, but I really gotta say this project is amazing. The documentation of it all is even better (and makes me not-too-anxious to make my own body from a blank anytime soon! not nearly enough tools (or skills)!)! Wow, just wow. Can't wait to hear it, too!
PS hello world!
Hi there! thanks for you comments, im sure you'll get a warmer welcome if you make an introductory thread in the general discussion forum at the top of the page!

I love those wicked guitar shapes.
That's why I like some of the BC Rich's.
I've been lusting for another Kramer Explorer.
They don't come up very often.
Awesome looking project you have going.
That is going to be great when you get it done.
The placement of the strap locks will be critical for balance.

It balances pretty well actually, the upper knob in the 'bone piece' sits nice and high and quite forward as well. The back Mac will have to see for himself, but halfways on the center of the body felt pretty good...good thing is Mac can first attach the bone one, then hold it there and move your hold/rest position on the back!

Just found out that there is no agreement with the UK to supply additional tracking info (so why all the fuzz about tracking), it is traceable till it leaves the Netherlands...it should really be arriving today!
whats the point of having a tracking facility if it stops when it reaches the north sea :D
Yeah its now 12.07, they have around 4 more hours to come and be hit with the hockey stick :D
im back at uni tonight!
