Anthony, I think your title turns to "Kommander" once you hit 1000 posts.

I personnaly Believe that the post count and titles should be done away with because it is always a point of contention as soon as some shit gets stirred up people want to throw the "I was here before you, So your opinion doesnt mean shit" line around!! It happpened at EZ board and has happened here! Pick a nickname and stick with it or dont! but I could give a shit about "RANK" :flipa
Just MHO!!!

I agree and exactly Bill. I was in a goofy mood one day so I emailed George and told him I didn't care for post counts and so I could make light of myself title me forum mascot. I mean so I wouldn't be a Kommander or whatever and peeps get the idea that entitled me to sumthin.
I actually even wish my post count wouldn't show but I don't think that can be altered.
:)
Edit: what would be kool is if you could give yourself your own title -that's a function used on some other BBs.

I never really looked at it as rank but some may. I just always thought of it as a kind of pat on the back for hangin' around and contributing.....or in my case cracking too many bad jokes. I guess all it really does is point out that you've posted enough to get a general feel for the place.
I'd forgotten about the ez board snafu about rank.
By design, I think it was instated just to be a fun thing and may be ingrained in the forum program code itself. Who knows. Bill, you and I have been around long enough that we'd be Kingpins if it was a rank. I can honestly say that no one here looks at us an inferior Kramerite.....or Jeff...or Anthony...or many others here.
That Bob guy kinda worries me though :yikes (just kidding Bob)
Your points are well taken though.

I think the ranking system is just fun- no more than that. Sure I guess the whole, "Im a Kommander, Im better than you" thing could come up but comeon, who really cares. It means NOTHING. People just need to remember that.
I say keep the rankings, they're fun and provide another source of mild entertainment on the forum.

Chris with all the mess that happened the other day
Its just something that gets tossed out every now and them and if it wasnt there its one less thing for people to gripe about. I love the Idea Lee had and picked a nickname for himself,Then the admins wont hafta worry about if someone has got there "promotion" on time or not
And I'm not saying that to start shit with you JamminJarhead. You can be a 5Star General for all I care :notworthy (We dont have a smilie that salutes)
I showed up just in time to watch EZ Board Implode, and when the crap got brought up again it just seems like maybe something that started out as fun has kinda ran its course :scratchhe
I dont know I'm just ramblin'
But I HATE what happened here and DONT want to see it again! :thumbsup
again My 2 cents!

I think that the post count may also reflect a lot on people who are trying to sell or buy in the Klassified section to.
Like it or not, people don't like to buy or sell to people they don't know. If a newer member sees a guitar for sale by a member here who has a high post count, he'd be a lot more likely to buy it than if the sellers post count was 40 or 50.
I know that when I first came to the forum, I needed some parts a couple times and the post count did indeed have an effect on who I was willing to deal with.

Hey Geek,
your absolutely right but how about not posting the joined date.if its just post count your worried about.
Bob had only been on the board a few months and I went and snagged a duke for him. Not because of how many post he had but because of the QUALITY in HIM and his post!! Like I said its just my opinion but I didnt like seeing it get tossed up again! PERIOD!
Im not and dont want ot be a "TENURED" member, but I dont want someone tellin me my or anyone elses opinion would mean more if I or they were here longer!!!
I dont want to start a fuss over this It was just meant as a idea
:thumbsup

Yeah... The number and date mean nothing to me any more either but unfortunately, people are people and a lot of them insist on knowing who is tenured or who has been around longer/shorter.
I'm not even sure what my join date is without opening up a post that I've contributed to and looking. That's how much it means to me.
I think though that the date and post count means a lot more to newer members and visitors than it does to anyone else.
A visitor coming here may see that there are a lot of tenured/long term members here and decide from that fact that this is a well established forum that has been around a while and will continue on in the future.
They would also be more likely to trust long term members knowing that there would be more accountability since a lot of others would know them after being around that long.
Not long after I first joined up over at the original forum, I needed some stuff. I found someone who had what I needed and I actually contacted George to see if the guy was trustable since he had low numbers.
Now, I know the regulars around here good enough that I rarely look at the numbers any more.

I only look at two post counters.
Bruce's...so I can see what the record is
and
Bob's....so I can see if it will hit Mach I from turning so fast.

You could be right but if youve been here long enough to even see the classifieds you should have a feel for a few people enough to ask their opinion.
I was buying stuff on "another" forum without a hitch. without enough posts to even see this ones classifieds
Maybe I'm just lucky :D

Lets not ruin what is good about this place because of a bad week.

There is humor everywhere, it's just our jobs to find it. I really believe laughter is the elixir to life and it heals all wounds. Free beer doesn't hurt either and seems to have a soothing effect as well.
Couple that with the fact that I am SERIOUSLY devoted to making this Forum work. I'm not part of the staff, I haven't a share in anything that makes it click but I care about the people in it. Whether I agree with someone else's views or not I can honestly say I care about everyone here.

Very good point Pat, I agree totally!
I think as long as we can all be big boys the post count shouldn't bother anybody.
it only lets you know who has more time on their hands to spend talking about guitars and stuff.
my two cents

When I posted about getting to 1000 posts, it was very tongue in cheek, after all mentioning it gets you another post :D
As for the 3 chords saw the funniest thing on one of the crap TV ad. channels last night, you guys may have come across it in the US before now, its called .......
The Guitar Wizard, basically tune your guitar to what looked like open E and place a metal bar across the frets and if you rock it back makes it makes it minor, flip it and it give you a 7th :D
Wish I'd thought of it they were selling shitloads of them :brow
