Well this is the only one we haven't covered. Let's respect each others PERSONAL OPINIONS as just that....personal. No hero attacks in this one please.
Underated:
Rod Morgenstein: Winger
Tico Torres: Bon Jovi
and, due to the fact that there is now a whole generation that hasn't even heard of the guy:
Alex Van Halen ( to me, the master on step below Neil Peart)
Most over-rated:
Lars Ulrich
Chris
Louie Music

Most over rated definately goes to Keith Moon from The Who.
Underrated? There's so many.

Over rated: Tommy Lee
Under rated: Phil Collins

Underrated: Billy Cobham obviously, as well as Sean Reinert(Cynic). Also, I couldn't believe my eyes and ears when I saw Dave Grohl playing with QUOTSA live, the guy is a real animal. _Nothing_ like the kindergarden stuff you know from Nirvana videos.
Overrated: Lars was a great choice.

Overrated : def. Lars; I saw him last month and he was terrible :-x Even worse than in the studio.
Underrated: Ken Owen.
Rated and rightfully so: Steve Gadd & Dave Lombardo.
Cheers,
Padja.

Underrated:
Second on Tico - he's badass
Pat Torpey of Mr Big fame. Just a killer pocket player.
Overrated:
Lars for sure
ACDC's drummer - rofl (is that a drum machine?)
Chris Layton (double trouble) - I don't think he's that great.

Overrated-----Lars for sure, and over ego'd
Underrated----Don't laugh but Phil Rudd, AC/DC. He lays a rock solid beat without variartion by request from the Young brothers but I've heard him let loose and he rocks. He's also one of the hardest hitting drummers I've ever heard, feels like your body is going to explode live. Also Tommy Aldridge early Ozzy with R.R., Kick ass hard hitting drummer.

I totally agree with and was going to say Rod Morgenstein of Winger. He brang great off-beat style drumming to Metal.
Alex Van Halen is a great drummer and it's a shame kids don't know about him.
Didn't Rod drum left handed?

there are tons of underrated or unknown drummers that are really fantastic. One I've seen in person was Terry "The Animal" Russel of Holy Soldier. the power kept going out at the show, so he played like a hour or two of soloing. He got second place at a guitar center double bass contest at nearly 800 beats per minute.

over-rated:
Tommy Lee
Lars Ulrich (poor thing had to settle for the medium size jacuzzi)
under-rated:
+1 for Eric Carr
Vinnie Paul, only because his bro was so killer on guitar that the rest of the band was often overlooked.
Any Appice bro you want to think of.

Overrated: Keith Moon, I know Lars is an egomaniac, and sometimes he's just not a good drummer, but his playing on ...And Justice for All makes up for any short-comings on the other albums. He's got the talent, just needs to get over himself.
Under-rated:
VIRGIL DONATI...he is my all-time favorite. He's the kind of drummer that other kick-ass drummers worship. Check out this vid of him playing in 13/16 time signature. Unreal!
http://www.virgildonati.com/videos/1316.wmv
Also, Mike Mangini (another Monster drummer), and Stewart Copeland of the Police ( I just love his technique)

Tommy aldridge is defintley under-rated.. he is the ultimate drumming animal...........whe i saw whitesnake the very first time he made his own hands bleed during a solo......... like i said he is a drumming animal.

Under-rated - Jason Bonham. He was kind of "over shadowed" by his Dad, but he was awesome.
Also Vikki Foxx of formaly of Enuff Z'Nuff and the Vince Neil band, he could keep a good beat
Over-rated: No opinion

I'm going to say Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater is the most amazing drummer I've ever heard. I'd say he's on par with Neil Peart.
Roxanne Petrucci formerly of Madam X and Vixen is also very good. Underrated big time.

Underrated = Tommy Aldridge
Overrated = Vinnie Appice - As much as I love Dio, I hate Vinnie's playing.
I never really liked Randy Castillo's playing either.

:notworthy :notworthy Buddy Freakin' Rich :notworthy :notworthy
The man got many drummers started. Neil Peart worshiped him. The guy that taught me drums saw him once in his last days. Shook Buddy's hand and didn't wash it for a week. True story.

And he wears a kilt! Seeing them live, it's amazing to watch him because he looks like he's not even trying.

They're playing near me next month, I actually want to go if I can talk a friend into it.
The only thing I don't really like is Warrel's singing live, he can't sing the stuff like it's been recorded and I hate that. Love his voice, though. Nevermore are great :headbang

Most overated- drummer from the beach boys...dont care to remember his name..but its not him on most of thier recordings.
Most underated- MK at BG studios Orlando Florida. He makes the impossible look easy, and when you hear the play backs, you, just like every one else will mutter the fraise " how in the h*ll did he do that". And if his time is different from your timex, your timex is broke.
