EDIT 2ND MARCH 07: DUE TO EVERYONE SHOWING OFF THE AWESOME STRATS, I'VE CHANGED THE TOPIC OF THIS THREAD TO SHOW OFF YA STRATS :D
(Hope this is ok by the moderators)
Hi, New to forums :)
I know this is not a kramer but I would just like to share with you my awesome Fender Mexican Stratocaster with HSS configuration.
I got this around June this year and Its awesome! Only thing I hate about it is that it only has 21 frets which is frustrating.
My next guitar purchase might be a Kramer 1984 or a Fender Telecaster (maybe another strat, I enjoy playing strats heaps :D)

Let's see a pic...I doubt you'll get a ton of Fender love here, but I've got a late 90's Mexican standard strat that I fond of. Strats were my first love, but now I really love chunking around with my epis and shredding :D (as if I could) with my vanguard. Welcome to the forum, by the way...you'll find a lot of great people and info here!

Those Mexican Fat Strats with a maple neck are a killer deal for the money. I'm not a huge strat fan, but I do have 3 of them. My favorite is a fat/maple setup.
If you ever want to upgrade to a 22 fret maple neck, check ebay...they run about 100 USD on average.
I don't mind the standard 21 fret on the strats. You just have to remember that when you are playing the high notes so you don't reach for something that isn't there.
If you lube the nut, you can get some awsome sounds and divebombs with that standard trem and it will always go back in tune....and, these things are built like a tank.
Welcome on board btw!

I like mex Strats with maple neck, the only thing I really dislike about them is the trem not being f-spaced and the alu sustain block. Other than that, they're killer for the money. As soon as you have some money to burn, update it with a set of Texas Special pups and you have a keeper there.
Strats are my tools of preference as well! :thumbsup
Oh, btw: I wouldn't go for the Epi LesPaul, I owned one myself and I can tell you there are many better LP copies out there for the money. The Kramer Custom (http://www.musicyo.com/product_specs.asp?pf_id=573) beats the shite out of Epi LP and costs probably about the same.

Yeah, They arent bad for the money. originally it was $1200AUS but I got it for $1000AUS.

Thanks ill try that. because when I play Van Halen stuff and do a divebomb, it all goes out of tune & its frustrating :D

yeah, I haved played a epi lp before and liked it (im a GNR fan aswell hence why I want a LP) but Im tempted to get a R.S Kramer over a LP now.
I like the stock pickups in my strat, ill have to have a look at the texas special pickups.
edit 24 Jan 2008: after this post was made, I grew to hate the stock pickups after a few months! they sound tinny and worked out that they are the reason why my amp squeels when I turn the amp up to 2. Replacing them soon :)

Texas Special are SOOOOO much better, it's not even funny. I have a box full of disoposed pups, six brand new Mex among those (though I have a buyer for 4 of those this weekend). I always swap stock strat pups for Tex. Specials (the best Strat pups ever IMHO) or DiMarzio FS-1 (these for the Yngwie violin-like sounds with lots of bottom end).
Do yourself a favor and get at least one for the neck position, it'll make the guitar twice as good just by doing that.

I was thinking, If I got locking tuners on my Strat, would it stay in tune when using the trem? its frustrating when trying to do eruption and when doing a divebomb it goes out of tune lol.
Im thinking of replacing the neck & bridge pickups soon too to something better, something with that strat kind of sound.
and I want one of these one day :P (Think im going fender mad) http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Fender-Showmaster-FMT-HH-Electric-Guitar?sku=511943

I used to have a mex strat that I put Sperzel locking tuners on. It was better with them, but still would go out of tune pretty easily.
My final solution was to tighten the springs in the back, flatten the bridge out to the body and not use the trem anymore. When I was finished, it was like a fixed bridge.
But that's probably not what you wanna here. :D

ive actually stopped using the trem on my strat, the bar is sitting in the guitar bag, it doesn't bother me that it goes out of tune with using the trem but just thought it would be good to not have it go out of tune when using it.
my guitar is setup like a fixed bridge except can still do dives when using the trem, A few days after I got the guitar I took the bridge off and put it back on to not float, I hate bridges floating.
Anyway Im really tempted to buy another strat, they are great guitars.

Depends how much money you have to spend, but if its a strat your after why not look around ebay or 2nd hand shops for a Pacer Deluxe or its Jap. brother the Focus 3000, same HSS setup you've got on that there mex strat, but with a floyd, coil tap and better tone and the kudos of being a Kramer ;)
I've still got my lace loaded '89 Jap, but I've also got a Dlx. AND a F3000, no guess' as to which I play most :thumbsup

Im trying to convince my brother to get a Kramer Focus http://www.musicyo.com/product_specs.asp?pf_id=101 but no luck so far, he prefers acoustic anyway...

I have a Strat with locking tuners. They do nothing re: keeping it in tune when using the bar. Tuning stability for ordinary purposes is quite good, though. :thumbsup

you could try the bullet strings by fender, they are made to fit the bridge and keep the trem in tune better or you could put a floyd on it.

+1 for those bullet strings. I had a set on mine for awhile and I really liked them. Very good tone for a strat. I don't know how much they're gonna help you with whammy dives though.
But they sure can't hurt any. :thumbsup

I like Strat-style and shape, pretty much my entire collection (save for a few) of guitars are strat shaped or styled/inspired. I wish they re-issued the Fender Heartfield Talon and HM Strat series as they seriously kicked ass!
The necks on strats are too thick for me, some guys like meat on their bone, I like thin flat 'n fast. But it Depends, for example the neck on a Peavey Wolfgang is pretty damn thick, but it feels so light and pourous that you don't notice it, un-painted/glossed necks do that though.
Oh and I'm not a fan of white pickguard, white pickup and sunburst...it's very generic...do what I do and put a black pickguard on it but retain the white plastix....a la SRV ;)

heres something that never happened before, not even on my squire strat. My trem arm just broke (where the thread was) and it was a bitch trying to get the thread end out of the bridge but i did it. now this is what the trem looks like.
http://www.freewebs.com/slashrox90/stratarmbroken.JPG
I only ever used the trem for VH stuff and maybe an occasional divebomb.
Do Floyd Arms break easy like this? Hope Not :(
I've never broken a Floyd arm.. I HAVE ruined a couple strat trem arms tho

I never really had a guitar with a vintage trem, i did for a while, but I never used the trem.
And another thing that Ive never had, a SSS config guitar, I doubt i ever will, not that I cant "Achieve the proper tone" because i sound the same with any Electric, but i just prefer the look of a Hum in the bridge

Love that red one TurboBlues, 22 and one serious pickupp loadout!!
very good friend of mine used to use a 70's strat with the large head, never liked them personally but what a fast slim neck it had, played like a dream.
I got it for less than a Fender American Strat.. It was previously owned by a friend of mine who owned it for probably less than a year, but rarely played so it's in absolute pristine condition as is the tweed case.. I've done a complete setup and threw a DOD YJM308 in my chain.. The tone this thing puts out is incredible! Particularly from the neck pickup :drool

I've tested both HS-3 HS-2 and YJM thru my Marshall JMP and I must say I think they sound pretty good.

They have low output and thus you must boost the signal to get the "good" sound out of the power amp. Otherwise they're simply too weak.

Sorry to jump in, but I just picked up a Mexico Stratocaster JR in Torino Red for my Daughter yesterday. She turns 7 next Sunday and it is for her Birthday. I am impressed with the quality of this over the other brand 3/4 guitars out there.
Anyway, I bought a hardshell case for a standard Fender Stratocaster with it and was wondering if anyone here knows of a better fit hardshell for the JR. There is only a gig bag available for the JR and the shop did not have one. It fits in the full case and it will protect it, however I will need to put a piece of foam at the butt to keep it from moving and hitting the first tuner on the headstock where it meets the case.
Thanks for the help,

Tom, does it help it stay in tune while using the trem?
What pups are those?
I just got done playing just about all my guitars this weekend and at the moment, liked my Floyd Rose Strat the best! :yikes :D
My preferences change weekly though it seems...

ok , Bruce...the pups are gold lace sensor, also stock...yes, the nut allows better tuning stability than a regular strat, but not as good as a floyd.
I have it set up to float, ala jeff beck.

Why not use locking tuners? That way you'd have almost floyd-like tuning stability.

The pink body is sold, but the neck lives on in a new costume with a Kne alder body painted in a homebrewn purple metallic.

I traded it for an Ibanez Jem DY. Wish I still had that strat! The only one I have now is a black mexican model with a Floyd. It's pretty sweet though!

It's a Floyd Rose II. I haven't dug into it too deeply yet, but it looks like crap metal from the top.
Getting ready to put a new pickguard and a Duncan in it tonight when my other guitar player gets here.
We'll be partying & soldering!

It's a sweet guitar, very thin neck. Sorry I didn't fix that broken string before I took the first pic!
:)
Although it is the Tipton sig model, there is another famous dude that used one.
Duane Roland, from Molly Hatchet and Gator Country fame, God rest his soul.
I got to meet him and he was one of the coolest guitarists I've ever known.

Thanks guys:)
I've A LOT of fret work to do on that Warmoth neck.. 2 of the frets are approaching 1/16th high. On the plus side, i can play the same note on 3 frets in a number of places on the fretboard:arrg
The neck is freakin gorgeous but dayum!! this is by far the roughest fret work I've ever seen on a new neck.. Warmoth must have someone new fretting necks:(
We'll get it fixed:thumbsup

Slashrox,
Well as you may have heard the 5150 can be noisy, massive gain.. combined with the 60 cycle hum of a standard strat can be painful, so instead of turning everything down a notch, I use a THD 16 Ohm and a mxr noise gate. Makes everything nice, it gives you a warm fuzzy feeling. However that same 5150 with a EVH MM... Whew man that sounds sooooo sweet. :toast

got the strat back today from service & setup. although I was without it for a week, it was worth the wait I guess.
Just had a play and it plays alot better now.
I usually use EB slinkys 10-46's, now I have 9-46's and I find them better for EVH stuff anyway (although I prefer the 10's).
I put it in for a setup because the 4th string kept buzzing and I was guessing there was something wrong with the neck. Its all fixed now :thumbsup
Also got a new trem bar for it too, the action of the bar is heaps higher than it was on the old bar. I'm amazed, I used the bar abit and it stayed in tune :thumbsup
Also just noticed that the fretboard looks cleaner (although it could just be me thinking that)...I'll take some pics later...

Is that a Warmoth 24-3/4 conversion neck? I've been thinking about putting a partscaster together with one of those. How does it compare to the 25-1/2 scale?

Yes,, it is a Warmoth Conversion
Obviously the scale length is the same as a LP.. The fretboard radius is Warmoth's compound radius.
The big thing you will notice is that for intonation purposes everything slides towards the bridge.. What this does is make the 22 fret a lil tougher to reach.. No worse than my Kramer Standard but that is the reality of the situation.. Warmoth doesn't mention this but I felt I should.. I wouldn't let it stop me from purchasing one of these necks but just be aware, you will notice difference between it and a 22 fret 25.5" scale neck..

Yeah, I see from your photo that the fretboard is touching the neck pup. Is the slinkier tension feel worth making the change? I'd really like to play one before buying, but I doubt that'll happen. :banghead
Honestly? I took it in a trade.. I was contemplating doing a short scale strat and this was offered up as part of a trade involving my RGT320Q..
But, I am glad I did.. I've always been a lil more at home on a Les Paul scale but do know where the trem bar is;) Gots to have my trem:)
If you prefer a Les Paul scale, I recommend ya try one.. Jake E Lee sure liked em.. I see why:headbang
